Remember the magazine Cracked? It was the one you always used to think was Mad Magazine, but wasn't. Although it's not on newsstands anymore (at least I think it isn't) they still have a website. And amidst my endless surfing of the world wide web (It's been about ten consecutive hours now) I came across a great list on Cracked.com of ten potentially great movies that never got made and probably never will. The one on the list that jumps out at me most is UNBREAKABLE 2, a) because UNBREAKABLE 1 is one of my favourite movies, and b) because their reasoning why the first UNBREAKABLE failed was because it was all origin story, and right when you want a big showdown between the hero and villian, the movie ends.

They say that origin stories are the dullest parts of superhero films. Not if they're done well. The story of how an ordinary person acquires, develops or discovers superhuman powers should never be boring, if treated with the care that such a mythical arc deserves. Which is why UNBREAKABLE is so great. Rats. This was supposed to be a story about a cool list, and I turned it into a nonsenical rant about origin stories and why UNBREAKABLE is great. That's what happens when you trash one of my favourite movies. Either way, it's a cool, in-depth and funny list which can be viewed right HERE.

I agree with some of the list. Particularly with Frances For Coppola's Megalopolis. That was a film I was following and intrigued by but alas it never happened.

Unbreakable is a masterpiece and is not only in the eyes of those with ADD who need explosions and the next plot advancement to take place every other second. But I think it should remain alone without a sequel. Unbreakable was great due largely to the relationship between Elijah and David and elijah would have to be back for the sequel to make it any good, but that's impossible because he's institutionalized and incredibly weak and without many if any friends, which makes any escape impossible and if that were to happen, number 2 would turn out like every other superhero movie and end up tainting the first one.

They basically say Kevin Smith's script for Superman sucks, which is weird 'cause I think it rocks. It would've been better than Superman Returns. Though, I gotta be honest, I did actually like Bryan Singer's vision.

I remember Cracked as the cheaper, less filling alternative to Mad, but I also remember it being funny. Now, Cracked.com seems to be the less funny, more filling alternative to Joblo. Is it even the same company as the old Cracked magazine-or am I experiencing a mid-life crisis? [link]

Count me amongst the people who believe that UNBREAKABLE was the best that M. Night has put out and not THE SIXTH SENSE.

How come Spider-Man 3 isn't on that list as an unmade masterpiece?? Wait...maybe it's because they made it already...and it kinda felt like the polar opposite of a masterpiece. Oh well...whatya know. ;)

I'm stunned, what a list. I DID have to double-check to make sure it was a CRACKED and not a MAD MAGAZINE article. To think we could have all ten of these movies today for the combined budgets of Ishtar, Waterworld and Howard The Duck (adjusted for inflation of course) and a handful of deflated Hollywood egos!
I'll just settle for Dumb and Dumber 3 written, directed AND starring Trey & Matt.

Unbreakable and M.Night need to shoot each other. that garbage was horrible. and why does this idiot always cast himself in these unbelievable roles? A drug dealer? That punk? or how about the small town sheriff in the Village? Come on, as if that movie didnt suck enough. and I won't even mention his role in Lady in Water... laughable.

M.Night needs to call it a day. If he died after sixth sense we'd all worhsip him as the greatest talent that died too young. Like Tupac and River Pheonix. Unfortunatly, he lived... like George Lucas.

Frankly, Unbreakable was a waste of time. Shyamalan is one of the most overrated directors we've ever had.

I mean, that was one of the great things, the way it ended. Wouldn't want to see the movie going to a more "comicish" direction.

Glad to see someone else appreciated the Shamalyan's greatest film.

And I remembered when the film came out, it was described as a "Sixth Sense"-knockoff. Knockoff my ass.

I wish he did the sequel, which I would've paid to see.

BTW, I had no idea the guys behind the stupid, assonying South Park show did a treatment for a Dumb and Dumber prequel. (Glad someone else made it and made a little more money, because theirs would've bombed BIG TIME!!!)
