BELOW are a couple of the first pictures snapped from the set of the Will Smith superhero movie JOHN HANCOCK, formerly titled TONIGHT, HE COMES. Based on these shots alone, with Will strapped into a harness wearing a shabby outfit, oversized shades, and clutching a bottle of the good stuff, you can tell this isn't going to be your average superhero movie.
Smith plays a tortured hero, who's been shunned by the city he once protected, and who falls in love with the wife (Charlize Theron) of the public relations expert (Jasone Bateman) who is trying to repair his image. With such an unorthodox story, I still can't imagine how they're going to pull this off, but Peter Berg (FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS) is the man behind the movie camera, which is a positive thing. This might be the first dramatic superhero in film history that isn't taken from an already-existing source. This character was created entirely for the screen. The movie is scheduled to be released next July 2nd, and you can catch Smith next in the last-man-on-earth epic I AM LEGEND, while Berg has the Middle East drama THE KINGDOM out this fall. Extra Tidbit:
Here's hoping they ditch that title.
