We've covered some actual roller derby stuff over at Movie Hotties in the past but now we have some a look at the upcoming theatrical version of roller derby. WHIP IT, the Fox Searchlight flick which marks the directorial debut of Drew Barrymore, is set for release later this year and USA Today got a first look at some photos from the film. The project is the first post-JUNO film for Ellen Page who dropped out of the starring role in DRAG ME TO HELL to roll with Barrymore and crew. Also cast in the film are Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Zoe Bell and Jimmy Fallon. Check out the pics below and click on any to see the full gallery at USA Today:

I'm currently reading Derby Girl which is the book this movie is based on and it's a lot of fun. The author of the book also wrote the screenplay so it should be just as good.

Ellen Page is PERFECT for...

Ellen Page is PERFECT for the main character. She's one of my favorite actresses and I think she's gorgeous too. This movie is getting lots of positive buzz from the early screenings.

As for Ellen Page dropping out of Drag Me to Hell, at first I was bummed, but then they replaced her with another one of my favorite actresses, Alison Lohman. That's usually never the case where someone I like drops out and they find someone else who is also an excellent actress.

But, it turns out as much hype as I had for Drag Me to Hell, it was a huge disappointment. There were some things I liked about it, like the acting by Lohman, Justin Long, and old gypsy woman. But, it did not measure up to Raimi's other horror movies and I didn't like seeing Lohman put through one embarrassing and stupid situation after another just to amuse the audience. And I HATED the ending.

Seriously though, where's the hot chick? Roller derby is one of the dumbest things in the world, i wouldnt want to watch a movie about it unless maybe there were hot girls (hate when people say this, but its true her...

sounds like fun. i do find drew to be annoying but i'm assuming she's not gonna be a major character in the flick so maybe it's not a problem. nice casting too with more hardcore type chicks like julia and zoe.

Well I learned after clicking on one of those pictures that I hate USAToday.com and will never be going there again. Now I have to watch a 15 second ad just to view a webpage? Ridiculous.
