Patrick Dempsey has signed on to star in an upcoming untitled heist comedy from Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the writers of THE HANGOVER. Dempsey, who has been reevaluating life since MADE OF HONOR, will star as a bank manager who gets caught in the middle of two simultaneous yet different robberies while trying to keep a bank teller he's crushing on safe. Paul McGuigan, who last directed this year's PUSH, will direct the film, which seems like an odd choice for a movie that seems to be angling itself as "a comedy from the writers of THE HANGOVER."
The good news for Dempsey is that he's producing the film as well as starring in it so it'll hopefully give him some creative control and avoid him being plagued as "the boyfriend" in the female-driven romantic comedies (as he'll be doing in the upcoming rom-com VALENTINE'S DAY). Filming on the untitled project is expected to begin in April.
Extra Tidbit:
Was just watching Dempsey star as Jimbo in OUTBREAK this very weekend...
