A Common Terminator May. 7, 2008
Source: Variety   by: Dave Davis

UPDATE: Streethop.com claims that Common is playing a character we (and John Connor) have already met in T2, namely the grown-up version of Daniel Dyson. You'll recall that his dad Miles (played by Joe Morton) accidentally contributed to the creation of SkyNet, and then helped stop it, except not really. So, y'know, whoops. Thanks to 'Rukas' for the tip!

Considering he's one of the few hip-hop artists with any kind of positive message, it's strange to see Common's acting career find him surrounded by so many firearms. Or in this case, phase plasma rifles in the 40-watt range.

The rhymer less known as Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr. has joined the growing cast of the new TERMINATOR movie, which is apparently still utilizing that awful mouthful TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS. Common will play one of John Connor's inner circle of freedom fighters battling the mechanized forces of SkyNet in the scorched future.

Christian Bale is the hero in McG's PG-13 man-versus-metal opus, with Moon Bloodgood, Anton Yelchin and Sam Worthington as survivors or (maybe) cyborgs. Common will next be seen with pistol in fist as the Gunsmith in WANTED.

Extra Tidbit: Aside from Arnie, Earl Boen (Dr. Silberman) was the only actor to appear in all three TERMINATOR movies. Bruce Davison played the character on the SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES TV series.

AWESOME...
Common is one of the most amazing MC's in the commercial corner of the genre, and also a good actor.

Plus, I've always wanted to see how the events of T2 effected that little guy.

Omen, you are totally right, "Will Smith was not a rapper in the same sense as" Common, he was MORE kiddy and over the top, dont you remember Parents Just Dont Understand? And he transformed into a good serious actor. Common on the other hand is a serious musician, more soul music than anything, and is showing promise of being a great actor just like Mos Def, Tupac Shakur and the aforementioned Will Smith.

DEAR SMIERT SPIONAM
Will Smith was not a rapper in the same sense as any current rappers. I like Common's music and the song list was just to be funny. I'd rather see an actor play a rapper like Terrance Howard in 'Hustle & Flow'. Rappers tend to over act in every film because they feel that a wussy performance will hurt their record sales. I do respect your opinion though as a fellow schmoe and I hope you got the joke.

DEAR OMEN666
You clearly know nothing about Common, because if you did, you'd realize how ridiculous your statement was regarding his music. Maybe you should do a little research next time before you go jumping to conclusions with your dated stereotypes....

P.S. To completely invalidate your argument, I will remind you that Will Smith aka The Fresh Prince was a rapper first before an actor.

FUCK THIS!
I'm out! Adding a rapper to a cast like Terminator is the kiss of death! There are so many REAL African-American actors out there and this is who they get? I can see the songs on the soundtrack now,
'These Motherf*ckers Don't Die Easy'
'My Mother is a Tough Bitch'
'I Picked My Daddy'
'T-dance'

Oh, and rumor has it that Bale's role is very small and will actually have about 11 minutes of screen time.

Sylvester Stallone is brilliant. You must have only seen Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot or Rhinestone.

Anyway, the ONLY thing that is drawing me toward this movie is Christian Bale. I'm having a lot of doubts about it.

What? There is a black dude in The Terminator? Now that totally unexpected.

But i must say Common is ain't that bad, compare to Tyrese he is like Tom Hanks to Sly Stallone.
