For better or worse, J.J. Abrams is mulling over casting Khan in the STAR TREK sequel, and he recently chatted briefly with MTV about the prospect. Nothing seems certain yet, but it's clearly something on the forefront of his mind.

"Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduced. Dealing with Khan would certainly be a challenge, but we had an equal challenge in finding our crew of the Enterprise."

"While I don’t want to approach the second film as a remake of episodes we’ve seen in the past... nothing is off limits in terms of what we’re discussing," he said. "When Bob Orci and the others who know 'Trek' so well, the fun of working with them is they know this universe so deeply they’re the ones who are always considering what it means to deal with the stuff in the past, so it’ll be exciting."

I don’t know how I feel about Khan being trotted out already as a villain, but if J.J. went with it, I'd have faith. I think it would be cool to see him tackle the Borg, but I guess there’s always STAR TREK 3. Thoughts?

I'd be cool with Khan, but...
They'd have to do it drastically different. JJ's talked about wanting torture to be a theme with the Klingons, so why not mix things up a bit and have the Klingons find the Botany Bay (Khan's ship.) They take the sleeping crew prisoner and the Enterprise is sent in on a rescue mission—a Kobyashi Maru, if you will—into Klingon space. Instead of getting anywhere near a remake of the original Wrath of Khan, Abrams should play on the fact that this is a reality where time travel has shifted things from the original series. In this setting, Khan never got screwed over by the Federation and is in fact an ally to Kirk and a viscious warrior that helps them defeat an unstoppable enemy. Any attempts to bring Khan in as a movie villain would be very tough to not just have people see it as a remake even if you changed plot points.

This is a whole new universe they can play with why not come up with some new villians/aliens instead of trotting out the same old ones.

Gonna catch hell, but...
Antonio Banderas as Khan. Think "Space Seed" kind of Khan. I alway thought Ricardo Mantalban was a little over-the-top (even more so than the Great Shat; an impressive feat) in ST2-TWOK. But bad-ass in "Space Seed."

Khan should be in the third installment. If he's in the second, the team behind this isn't as creative as we thought. The new crew needs to be established more before Khan enters the franchise again.

Why?? Khan is quite possibly the greatest movie villain of all time. It's the kind of challenge only a handful of people in the business can pull off, and JJ is one of them.

Not "Depressing"
The new Star Trek did so well because it intended on being "Fun" first and then "Star Trek" second. Thank God for that, the franchise nearly died a very horrible death because it forgot how to be fun!

Depressing
The really depressing thing to me is the fact that everyone loves the new Star Trek movie. For me it was on par with any of the stupid new Star Wars movies. The writing was equally as lazy and it became an action fantasy instead of a good sci fi film. (Which is what Star Trek should be)

Who could they possibly cast as Khan? If they do go down this route I hope they choose someone of a suitable ethnic origin.

This is a terrible idea. It would ruin a new franchise already on very shaken ground with most Trekkies.

I'd like to see them go with some story on par with TOS episode 5 "The Enemy Within'" or my favorite Original Series episode 33 "Who Mourns For Adonis?" type of story-so many cool episodes could be mulled over as at least a story line basis. "A Private Little War" episode 45 will always be a contemporary story/reality. I'm sure whatever story they cook up will be a good one-origin film rocked!...

I have faith in these guys. Always loved Star Trek and this film was off the charts for me.

The Borg could actually come into this timeline since things have changed. They have always been my fav villians. First Contact and the reboot are my 2 fav films. I say bring on the Borg!!

Gael García Bernal
Gael García Bernal from the Motorcyle Daires/Bable would be a good young Khan. Even though there is only a 2 year difference between him and Chris Pine (11 between Montalban and Shanter), i still think he would be exellent.

As has already been mentioned, the only way to use Khan would be to basically remake "Space Seed." Which would be interesting, I suppose, but what would be the point?

Screw Klingons.
I wasn't huge on the reboot, but the only good feeling I got was that the second movie would be them finding the Botany Bay, and Kahn... with less yoga.

I think instead of re-hashing the plot of ST 2, they should go back to the original Botany Bay episode where Khan first appears - he and his gen mod soldiers take over the Enterprise. That would be better for #3 or #4 though - #2 needs to be the Klingons. They need to introduce some brilliant Klingon captain that can be Kirk's rival going forward.

I say introduce Khan, not as a pure villian at this point but as a neutral or almost good character who, during the film, is somehow wronged by Kirk and vows revenge in III. I honestly think II should be enitrely about the Klingnons since they weren't even dealt with in I.

How can Kahn be introduced in any way other than being found in cryogenic sleep on the Botany Bay? Nero's time rewrite wouldn't have altered the casting away of Khan and his supermen in the 90's. The only way to have Khan in this movie would be to retell SPACE SEED in feature length. Which nobody wants to see. The latest Star Trek was a great reboot to the series, but there's a lot more they could do than simply recycling old villains. Leave Khan alone.

Leave ST2:TWoK alone!!!!!
Do something different, instead of going with a tried and proven movie that really doesn't need to be revisited. It was done well enough with the original(s).

Healthy reboot
I thought Star Trek was as good a reboot of a franchise as I have ever seen. I just don't think it's developed enough to bring in Khan. It worked with TOS because there was an original episode giving us the history on Khan and why he was so bitter towards Kirk.

STOP!! The 1st movie was fun but stupid and nowhere near as good as any real Star Trek (Orginal)...but for the love of everything that is holy. CAN'T THEY COME UP WITH SOMETHING ORIGINAL EVER??!!

I hate Hollywood for simultaneously giving birth to, and then destroying my dreams.
