DISNEYLAND
I wonder if there will be a problem with the title of the film due to the section of disneyland called Adventure land. This movie looks pretty bad. Just because it is the same director of Superbad doesn't mean it's the same writer. |

Jesse Eisenbeg was not doing a Cera impression, thats how he acts. Just watch Rodger Dodger or The Squid and the Whale, where he puts in great performances. Was anyone else excited to see Martin Starr with what seems like a decent sized part? This looks promising. |

I like the thought that is put into these movies. It's not like the quickly manufactured comedies sold to the masses. While this might seem like that since it's the Superbad follow up, it doesn't feel like it.
I'll see it, and probably prefer it over Superbad. Hader is awesome. |

Excellent, an actually discussion in these parts!
I understand and agree with you completely about not only the film being inaccessible to the masses, but in the film becoming convoluted toward the end. Personally, I don't mind a certain level of complication for the sake of being complicated, so long as said 'thing' wraps itself up, which I feel "The Nines" did. The part that got me, mostly, was the end of the second act or "part" and it's breaking down of the 3.5th wall, for which I don't know a better description. I also understand and appreciate your qualm with the lack of the main "idea" being touched on only lightly throughout the film, though heavily referenced. I think that was more a film tool, as to not disclose the twistish reveal between parts 2 and 3, and the end of the film, but I can appreciate the manner in which it was done, as it limited the world to just what we saw, and didn't get too flighty or "2001" with the final point and message. Luckily, though, I only watched the first 9 minutes before watching the film, and not the trailer, because I feel it, having seen the film, gave FAR too much away.
Everyone: If you want to watch this film, absolutely do. If you want to see some of it before to get an idea of what you're about to embark on, DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER. Google for the first 9 minutes and let that be your hook. |

Nope, I've seen The Nines. I know a lot of people who have as well. It was actually seen a lot more than most people assume. I used to work at a rental place and it was frequently out. Granted, we only had like 5 or 6 copies of it, but they were constantly being picked up. I think the general movie-going audience either didn't really understand what was going on, or it wasn't accessible to them. Let's face it, it's not the most accessible movie.
While I thought Ryan Reynolds was very good in it, I DID think the movie got a little convoluted towards the end. I really enjoyed the first two stories, but the third one was pretty boring for me and, in order to justify it's presence, ended it with this big idea. The idea was the climax, but they only touched upon it lightly. While I understand its connection to the previous stories, it just didn't feel genuine to me and a bit tacked on, even though it was set up earlier in the film. I don't know, maybe I'm just being hypercritical, but I would have liked to have learned a bit more about the nines and maybe have a few more correlations between the stories. |

I'll definitely check it out. Especially with Hader, Reynolds and Wiig in it. I don't know what it is but Wiig does something for me. |

LOVE IT.
Superbad is awesome, and while this kid comes off as the poor man's Michael Cera, the Bill Hader scenes had me howling, and Ryan Reynolds is great in everything, mostly because he rarely doesn't play Ryan Reynolds. |
