UPDATE - Arcade frontman Win Butler shoots down the news saying, "[we] may do an instrumental piece or two for Richard Kelly's new movie...but we are not planning on doing any major work for a while."

Recently Richard Kelly teased on his MySpace blog "The last few months have been an amazing time for us on the editing of THE BOX. We're starting to work with a very famous band who is honoring us with being the first fillmmakers they've ever scored a film with." Who exactly that "very famous band" was Kelly wouldn't say but web-based music pub Pitchfork has spilled the beans. They say Montreal's second most famous (sorry but our own JoBlo takes the top prize) The Arcade Fire will be scoring Kelly's upcoming thriller. I've never been a huge Arcade Fire fan (could never figure out what the fuss was about), I'm always a fan of allowing rockers to stretch their wings and compose music for films. After all, isn't that how Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman got his start? THE BOX stars Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella and follows a married couple bequeathed with a magic box that brings them fortune while befalling tragedy on a stranger. The film is set for release later this year.

Extra Tidbit: The arcade in question is the Exeter Arcade in New Hampshire.

GOOD
Arcade Fire is one of the best bands around.
As for Kelly, don`t give up on him yet. Just remember, even Spielberg had his "1941".

HellPenguin you should stop worrying about genres and start listening to the music for what it is. If a label someone slaps on art is enough to sway you from it, then I truly feel sorry for you.

HOWEVER, I think this is a great idea. Their compositions have a cinematic quality to them already so I'd love to hear what they have to offer to this film.

Arcade Fire is one of my favourite bands. Their new album Neon Bible is abolutely great and Funeral is surely on of my top 3 records. Grats to anyone who can be able to use their music.
Hope the film is good too.

Arcade Fire are quite alright, but man, Cameron Diaz? James Marsden? I don't like that casting, but the movie could prove me wrong.

And HellPenguin, even the kids who get all their music education off from Wikipedia aren't as fucking dumb as you. "Borderline Emo" ? LOL.

I love arcade fire
Arcade Fire is more like experimental indie rock. Really, they're a friggin' good band that anyone can enjoy.

Pardon the musical bigotry...
...but it sounds like every other borderline emo (I hesitate to use the term since even bands that started the trend are now ill admitting anything to do with it, which means it must be dying...finally) indy band on the face of the earth.

In terms of epic, the only movie that will come out worth anything will be the Warhammer movie scored by Manowar. Right? Good lord, someone mak...

If yer gonna get Arcade Fire to score something can it be for a magnificent epic befitting their music and not a horror film made by a one hit wonder?
Just kidding about the last part. I am still waiting for the day when band can win academy awards for their music. After all The RZA was BAFTA nominate for his Kill Bill music.
