Dead Army start
Jun. 26, 2008
Zack Snyder has a flare for zombies (DAWN OF THE DEAD) as well as armies (300). So I’m thinking it’s a safe bet that his forthcoming project ARMY OF THE DEAD will work out nicely. Jared P. last reported here that ARMY had found itself a director in Matthijs van Heijningen. Things must be moving along nicely because today we have word on a starting time for the flick!
At this past Tuesday’s Saturn Awards, STYD caught up with Snyder and his wife/producing partner Deborah (both above) to talk briefly on ARMY. Here’s what Zack had to say: “[Shooting begins] Really soon. The studio [Warner Bros.] seems to love our director and love our script. The movie, for me, is all about spectacle and being crazy, so it's just trying to find a balance with the studio." Deborah, kindly cutting to the chase, went on to add, "We're hoping to start this fall."
That’s great news to me! Though some may feel that the “zombie movie” is starting to get played out, I say that there’s always room for fresh ideas from competent filmmakers. And fortunately, Mr. and Mrs. Snyder fit into that category. Give your brain a taste of ARMY’s plot:
In a quarantined Las Vegas in the not-too-distant future, a father tries to save his daughter from imminent death in a zombie-infested world.
Short, sweet, and to the point (and somewhat reminiscent of RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION). If shooting is looking to begin this fall, then hopefully we’ll start hearing about casting soon. I’ll keep you posted.
