Strike Back below!

With POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES slamming into theaters this winter, the buzz for director John Erick Dowdle has been growing and growing and growing - like the Energizer Bunny on Viagra. Instead of waiting for the wave of success to hit upon the film's release, Dowdle signed on to direct QUARANTINE, the American remake of the recent horror flick [REC]. Remaking a movie that has barely hit theaters overseas is a bit bizarre, but when opportunity knocks... you take it!

Starring hottie Jennifer Carpenter, QUARANTINE is about Television reporter Angela Vidal and her cameraman are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. After a routine 911 call takes them to a small apartment building, they find police officers Wilensky and McCreedy already on the scene in response to blood curdling screams coming from one of the apartment units. Unbeknownst to them, a woman has contracted a rare strain of rabies. When they try to leave the building with those injured from a wild attack by the infected woman, they find that they’ve been locked in. Indeed, there are police, SWAT and CDC crews securing the building. But phones, internet, televisions and cell phone access have been cut-off, and officials are not relaying information to those quarantined inside.

The other working title for this was WHEN RABIES ATTACK, but I suppose I can dig the title they went with. Sony Pictures released new pics from their 2008 line up, and nonchalantly threw in a new pic from QUARANTINE while they were at it - the first we've seen, if I'm not mistaken.

You want exciting, you give me Carpenter in news reporter mode. Wow. I'd buy the ticket right now if given the opportunity. Ok, so it's nothing special, but it IS cool, none-the-less. No release date has been set in stone, but October 2008 is being eyed as the month for QUARANTINE. Considering it's a horror flick, I'd say that'd be a pretty darn good decision right there.
