Oh jeez, we’ve got another Sasquatch-themed horror flick! I guess people haven’t learned their lessons after the likes of SASQUATCH HUNTERS, SASQUATCH MOUNTAIN, SCREAM OF THE SASQUATCH, SUBURBAN SASQUATCH, the list could go on and on. Honestly, the only Sasquatch-esque flick that was ever any good was dear Tiffany Shepis’s ABOMINABLE (which is getting a sequel—see here). However, now attempting to make it into the limited, "well-received" section of Sasquatch movie lore will be the forthcoming SASQUATCH ASSAULT. Bangin’ title! But hold the phone! The flick’s writer, John Doolan (who co-scripted the sweet-looking BANSHEE!!!) tells us that this particular Sasquatch offering has a twist!

It’s ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 with a Sasquatch! Here’s what Doolan had to say: The concept sounds insanely over-the-top, but I saw an opportunity to do something different in a Bigfoot movie. They’re all pretty much the same thing (Yup): A group of people head out into the woods and get attacked by a half-human monster. What sets SASQUATCH ASSAULT apart is that, first of all, it takes place in a city. And second, the creature isn’t just some bloodthirsty killing machine. We wanted it to have more humanlike qualities in addition to its animal instincts. The reason it attacks is because it’s provoked, and feels the need to defend itself. Not to fear, though, blood lovers, there are still plenty of creative deaths planned.”

And will those deaths be administered by some CGI creation (a la BANSHEE!!!) or something a little more old school? According to Doolan, “The titular beast will be a performer in a special FX costume designed by Dan Anderson who did the original designs for the BANSHEE.” For a low-budget Sasquatch flick, I say a man in a creatively crafted monster suit is the way to go. Doolan is currently finishing up the script and promises, “This movie has everything: A Bigfoot, a hooker, badd-ass villains, a switchblade-weilding hot chick, over-the-top deaths and much more. We’ve already started casting and preproduction, with filming to commence later this summer.” I’ll be sure and keep an eye out for any further SASQUATCH sightings.
