Well it's definitely happening folks.. RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE is heading our way. It's well beyond the rumor point seeing how things are moving like mad with this project. It's already got a release date and is set to start production in just over 2 months! It recently snagged a director in the form of RESIDENT EVIL regular Paul W.S. Anderson and today we've got some more RESIDENT EVIL updates for you all...

The guys over at ShockTillYouDrop had a chance to chat with Anderson at Comic Con and were able to squeeze a few very interesting tidbits out of him. First up Anderson announces that the film will be coming at us in 3D using the same camera system that James Cameron used for AVATAR! Nice! Zombies in 3D?! I'm there! Secondly Anderson hopes that RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE will be the start of a whole new RESIDENT EVIL trilogy and that it'll have the largest budget of all the RESIDENT EVIL films. He doesn't even see AFTERLIFE as the fourth installement to the franchise. Instead he sees it more as a rebirth of the franchise. And lastly it seems AFTERLIFE and it's subsequent sequels will feature previous characters from both the RESIDENT EVIL movies as well as the video games. Nice!

RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE has Paul W.S. Anderson back behind the camera as writer and director and already has Milla Jovovich tapped to return as "Alice." It starts production September 28th and hits theaters a year later on September 17, 2010! I think it's safe to say we can expect a lot more AFTERLIFE updates in the next month so keep it here for those!

Think there's a good chance Ali Larter will return?

Chris Redfield. The end. His little sister debuted on RE: Extinction (played by Ali Larter) so I guess they could find a way to bring him in given the fact that the story in the movies don't really follow the one in the games. Jill Valentine could be back too, after she left the gang between the end of Apocalypse and the beginning of Extinction, let's say to reunite with Mr Redfield somewhere e...

Chris Redfield, thats all that needs to be said, and me personally I'm glad Anderson is back behind the the franchise directing again, the first RE is still the best IMO, Anderson just has a visual flair that other directors dont and I dont care what anyone says or how much hate the man gets, I love his movies and I cant wait to see this one now

I would love to see Leon S. Kennedy make his big screen debut. There is a huge possibility that I would jizz on myself. As for what Elder said earlier, I'm pretty sure Ali Larter played Claire in the previous movie. I may be wrong but I'm almost 100% sure she was.

Aw, crap. I was so looking forward to this, but now ... man, I am so sick of all this 3D shit! Sure, it's kinda fun to see things flying at you in the theater, but in the long run (read: at home) it just hurts the film. Anyone tried to watch "Beowulf" in 2D? Ouch! So, yeah, what a bummer.

If they made Resident Evil 4 ACTUALLY like the RE4 videogame
i personally think it would be incredibly bad ass. But with Paul W.S. Anderson writing and directing this puppy, nothing good can come from it; I don't care how many good ideas with characters he has.

Agree with ElderPredator. Personally, I'd love to see Resident Evil that takes place in a remoted mansion filled with lots of rooms and puzzles. Make RE feels like RE again!
