Much like a stalker ex girlfriend, DAY OF THE DEAD 2 CONTAGIUM (Directed by: Ana Clavell and James G. Dudelson, read my interview here) just won't F-Off! It's constantly coming and going in the media, threatening to eventually be released to spit in our faces.

I won't hide the fact that I hate the idea of this "sequel/prequel" to George Romero's classic Day of the Dead! And judging by what I've seen thus far, it looks like a floating turd waiting in the wings to me! A German "AITH Reader" Roman Deppe recently got to see the film and here's what he had to say about it. You got the floor bro!

MINI REVIEW: I won't write a whole review as this crappy movie isn't worth the time writing about, or watching! How and why this movie is called DAY OF THE DEAD 2 I still don't know. Instead of buying that title or the rights or whatever they should have put some money into their special effects. For a direct to video movie like this I don't expect glossy camerawork or a big orchestral score, not even a clever script, but at least give us some guts and gore. Especially when you make a zombie movie!

The story wasn't all that bad and had some interesting ideas to it, but failed to generate any suspense, shocks or scares. Basically it's about a group of people getting infected with a mysterious virus, which has been stolen from a military compound or whatever in Russia. They slowly turn into the undead, but they keep their mind.
Actually, some turn into evil bloodthirsty zombies while some don't and try to find a way to become human again. But at that point I hardly think that anyone cared anymore. The movie is so slow, boring and uninteresting that you really would have needed spectacular gore effects to keep the audience watching.

But forget it. The zombie make up is no more than some blood and spots in the face and whenever someone gets eaten you just see 3-4 zombies grabbing someone and pretending to bite them. You don't see any ripping, tearing eating... nada....This has absolutely nothing to with any of Romero's masterwork and it is actually a prequel... sort of... explaining how the zombie plague started. If you ever want to interpret it like this. Don't even rent this movie; it's not worth the time...and not worth writing about anymore...

I'm not too surprised, I'll still wait to see it for myself to pass full judgement though. Want more bad news? The people behind CONTAGIUM are also behind the upcoming CREEPSHOW 3 and a DAY OF THE DEAD REMAKE...great...that's just f*cking great...George why did you sell the rights to your films...WHY!!!!!!!!!

Decent
I felt Day of the Dead 2, while not being agreat movie by any means, was still somewhat decent and worth the look. The German version must have been censored because I found the movie, especially the beginning scene, quite violent and gory. It was a bit cheesy, and the story was lame, but it was fun nevertheless. I can't wait for Arrow to see this and review it. I don't think he'll love it, but...

German version is no doubt butchered due to censorship
I'm going to hold out judgement on this myself, since the german version is no doubt completely cut down to show very little blood or gore. No, blood and gore, isn't going to save an otherwise bad film, but it could be shaved down so much that plotlines get lost or mutilated as a result of rampant censorship on the part of the German govt.

Im curious for this movie, but it looks like a stinker.
Looks like this company is trying to make shitty sequels to our beloved horror classics.

But speaking of Contagium, I saw some pics the other day of the film and I was very impressed by the gore in them. But as we all know pics tell very little as to what a movie is really like. Oh well, to me this movie will be just a mild curiosity, its one of those films where we will have to...
