As you may have heard, Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN II is coming back to theaters (apparently over 1000 screens, which is significant) this upcoming weekend to try and cash in on the holiday, as well as to simply add a little more change to its somewhat disappointing original haul ($32 million domestically - not terrible, but well short of the first HALLOWEEN's $58 million two years ago). While this will be the same version that was released in August, we can eventually expect a different version when the flick is released on DVD next year.

Zombie tweeted (ugh) earlier today the following: Halloween 2 director's cut is finally done. Very different than the theatrical version. But how different will it be exactly? A few months ago, Icons of Fright spoke with Rob about what would potentially be different in the director's cut. Here's a snippet:

"The way we cut it for the theatrical, Laurie Strode’s character is the main difference in the two. (In the theatrical) She’s holding it together, getting her life together and it starts spiraling downward. In the other version, she’s an incredible mess and gets worse. She never has any good moments, she’s just messed up, she’s lashing out at everyone, she’s horrible. Messed up on drugs, she’s just completely spun out through the whole movie."

For more from Zombie about the changes, head on over to ICONS. Plus, you can check out a chat our own JimmyO had with Rob at Comic-Con below, where Rob talks about his original vision for the first film!

Spilled Blood: I was not a hater of HALLOWEEN II. What did you think?

Hell, yeah!
I liked the theatrical version of H2 and I'm definitely down for an alternate darker cut. Plenty of fans have bailed on Zombie as a director, but I still think he's one of the best of the modern crop of hardcore-horror directors. That said, I'd hack my left nut off with a rusty butter knife if Zombie would tackle a project that didn't involve profanity-spewing white trash. But hey, the man brin...

But hey, the man brings the brutality to his films, which I like, so I'll take the bad with the good.

Eh...
I didn't hate H2, but I didn't exactly love it either, so another cut of it doesn't thrill me much. I still maintain that Zombie is a great director, potentially one of the best going. He just needs to find someone else to write his scripts for him. Just MHO...

One thing I liked about Zombie's H2 is that it got a theatrical run. Which mean part 3 has a chance to be good (big budget, better people involved). Up until Zombie was on board H2 was a direct-to-dvd movie and a Halloween franchise deserves better than that, even this one.
