Terminator for auction
Nov. 2, 2009
About a month ago we told you about the possibility that Halcyon would be auctioning off the rights to the TERMINATOR franchise, which they acquired not too long ago. After TERMINATOR SALVATION bombed at the box office, Halcyon had to make a choice: keep the franchise and go bankrupt, or auction the franchise and not go bankrupt.
According to The Financial Times, it loooks like Halcyon decided to not go bankrupt, putting the rights to the TERMINATOR franchise up for auction. The rights include all future movies, spin-offs, and TV series', but does not include the rights to the previous TERMINATOR films.
Most franchises like this are owned by major studios, making the TERMINATOR franchise so unique, but that may end up changing after the auction takes place. Sony Pictures and Summit Entertainment have both expressed interest in the acquiring the franchise, as are a few other non-studio companies.
The auction is set to take place later this month, no word on the amount that the franchise will likely sell for. Stick around as we find out the crazy details once the auction goes down in a few weeks!

Hottest Terminator Ever.
Spilled Blood: TERMINATOR SALVATION grossed a world wide total of $317M. In contrast, TRANSFORMERS 2 grossed a whopping world wide total of $832M.
