Sanchez talks BW3
Before there was PARANORMAL ACTIVITY there was THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, a movie that was widely successful at the time, but didn't seem to push the careers forward of anyone involved, including co-writer / co-director Eduardo Sanchez.
Because P.A. is doing so gosh-darn well, it looks like there may be another BLAIR WITCH on the way, at least according to The Star, who recently sat down with Sanchez and talked to him about the sequel. Here's a peak:
We're at the step where we're about to pitch to Lionsgate, which owns the movie rights now. It's pretty much up to them. They can completely squash it or greenlight it.
Apparently he and co-director Daniel Myrick went out in the woods recently looking for inspiration for a third film, a film that pretends that BLAIR WITCH 2 never exists, and would involve original cast members Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams.
I can see why Sanchez would try to milk the whole 'real footage' angle again, as it's the only type of film the duo has made that has been successful--their other films have not done so well and have gone straight to DVD in the process. Another BLAIR WITCH? Eh, don't know if there's that much demand for it, but now that a decade's gone by, maybe a new generation will take a liking to it... or not.
I'm one of the few who actually thought BLAIR WITCH 2 was a decent flick, so it bothers me just a bit to pretend like it never happened, but we'll see. It looks like it's up to Lionsgate now as to whether it'll happen at all.
