Transylvania 3D date
Nov. 4, 2009
Over three years ago we told you about a little animated flick called HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA (relive the past HERE), and lookee here, the damn thing finally landed a solid release date! Nice!
Now slapped with the "3D" in the title, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3D goes a little something like this: a group of classic monsters including Frankenstein, the Mummy, Dracula and the Werewolf are hiding out in a hotel on the outskirts of Transylvania now that 21st century technology has seemingly made them irrelevant. Simon Van Helsing, the youngest in a long line of monster hunters. The last thing Van Helsing wants to do is fall in love with Dracula's Daughter, Mavis. Upon discovering that they are natural enemies, the doomed couple attempts to bring peace between monsters and humans. In the end, each family will have some new blood.
It's like ROMEO & JULIET but with monsters instead, and playing off the classic Eagle's song, though it doesn't sound like it's a place for recovering alcoholics. When animated genre flicks are done right, and I'm talking THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and MONSTER HOUSE, they can be quite the fun time. The key is to have them 'done right' and that doesn't always happen.
So that date? Oh yeah. That's why we're here. HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3D will now be released February 17, 2012! Holy crap, almost six years from the time the project was announced to the film's opening day. There's animation for ya. And now that it's gonna be in 3D, I'm sure it's taking even more time.
It's a fairly cool concept, let's just hope the long wait is worth it. Stick around for more on HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 3D as we hear it, and mark your mental calendar for February 17, 2012.
Spilled Blood: Director Jill Culton also directed OPEN SEASON. Uh-oh. Maybe this won't end up being all that and a bag of tricks...
