MTV gets Savage
Nov. 6, 2009
UPDATE: Check out the brand new still from SAVAGE COUNTRY! Very nice!
My Man Eric loved MY SUPER PSYCHO SWEET 16 so much, he told me I should never see it. He wants to keep it as a gem only for himself. Even after telling us to see it at iTunes in its uncut form, there was an undertone of don't see it for any reason. See, the dude loves it.
So he'll probably love SAVAGE COUNTRY as well, the latest webseries to come out of MTV that's a tribute to hillbilly horror, but set to a rockin' soundtrack and heavy teen overtones. From director David Harris and producers David Gale and Craig Brewer comes the 8 part series that plays a tribute to films like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. God help us all.
According to STYD, SAVAGE COUNTRY will go something like this: Set before prom, a mismatched group of high school kids heads to a remote pond to party. When the beer runs dry, the conversation turns to daring Patrick, the runt of the group, into knocking on the door of the Hardells - the reclusive family that owns the land the pond is on. Patrick takes up the dare, knocks on the Hardells' door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a shotgun. When Patrick's friends come to his defense, the oldest Hardell is killed in the shuffle. Scared and guilty - the teens flee the crime. When the rest of the Hardell clan finds the old man murdered, they seek out vengeance. One-by-one, the teens are hunted down by Orry, the sexually oppressed mute, Willard, the long-haired wildman, and Kasper, the cold-blooded family leader.
Now how's that for a bucket of fun? They should probably just say it's a tribute to WRONG TURN and get it over with, but saying it's more like TCM is fine and dandy I guess. If you're into lying.
Filmed last summer and starring Mimi Michaels, this webseries leaves us with a few questions: will it be epic and savage if it's airing on the internet and not on TV, DVD, or in theaters? Will there be a DVD cut of the film, with all 8 webisodes strung together? I sure as f*ck hope so. I want to buy a copy for My Man Eric so he can slap it up next to MY SUPER PSYCHO SWEET 16 on his DVD shelf. Stay tuned for more on SAVAGE COUNTRY as we hear it.
Spilled Blood: SAVAGE COUNTRY is in no relation to DARK COUNTRY, DEAD COUNTRY, or DEADER COUNTRY.
