With the fairly recent announcement that MAD MAX 4 (entitled FURY ROAD) looks to get younger by replacing the iconic Mel Gibson with Tom Hardy, there’s no doubt the film is set to polarize audiences. I mean, A MAD MAX picture without the real Max? Sacrilege, right?

Well, looks like the good folks at the Australia Herald have caught up the man himself for a few words on the new George Miller installment. And you know what, dude offered a sparsity of words.

And here they are:

“Oh gosh, I don’t know what he’s up to…Not with me, I don’t think, man, I’m a bit old and long in the tooth for that number. You need somebody who can get around a bit quicker.”

Really? If Indy can smoke villains at 65 (Harry Ford), I have faith Gibson could still rock the helmet and shades a 56. Don’t you?

But that’s all academic. We will however get to see my girl Charlize Theron cutting it up with the best of ‘em come 2011 (when the project sees release).

Something tells me though we're far from seeing the last of Gibby onscreen.

Spilled Blood: If not Gibson or Hardy, who do you see best playing Max?

I don't mind someone else playing Max, really, what's with the Mel is Max shit? bring on the hard-hitting action, make it rated R (not graphic but verging on mean-spirited stunts) and cgi-free (hardly) and it's good to go, Tom Hardy is fine by me. But IMO if you wanna make it proper, bring a guy named Gerard Butler! how come no one mentioned him yet? if he won't be Snake Plisken make him Max, h...

I'm sorry but Mel is Mad Max. The way he looks, his movements and mannerisms. I don't think anyone can do the role justice but him. I just can't believe he wouldn't want to finish out the franchise that basically put him on the map. I trust that George Miller will make a good movie no matter what, but I think they could make Mel pass the torch in an un-cheesy way.

After watching the movie Bronson. Tom Hardy will step up and bring justice to Mel Gibs iconic role.

It will be odd...
Yeah Mel Gibson is the iconic guy for Max and it will be odd to see someone else play him..but we'll just have to wait and see.
