While on the set of the upcoming post-apocalyptic vampire film STAKE LAND, I learned from the film's producer Larry Fessenden (WENDIGO, THE LAST WINTER) that he's off the remake of THE ORPHANAGE, which he's been attached to as director since August. (Read our article about that HERE.)

"THE ORPHANAGE was two years of waiting. Working on the script with Guillermo was a very exciting experience, but then I got into a casting miasma and that's where the thing is; I think they're gonna do it another way, actually. So I think I'm out of it. Hopefully they'll still use my script, but I'm not sure I'm directing it anymore. That's Hollywood for ya."

When I asked Fessenden if he knew what his next directorial effort would be, he said, "I have like three movies that I wanna do that are, ironically, at this level. Just because that project [ORPHANAGE] got my foot in the door with studios and managers, agents, all good people working hard - but the fact is I don't trust whether or not it'll work. You know, after you get bitten once, you're just a little more wary."

At the moment, Fessenden is busy producing three pictures for Dark Sky Films, STAKE LAND being the second. Keep your eyes open for more info and insight from the set of STAKE LAND, which is now in the process of wrapping up production in upper New York.

...still. Does this suck? A film that doesn't need a translation, with the actual producer/genre god on board? I'm not sure. Larry and Guillermo on the same movie will always equal awesome to me. No worries though, right? Guillermo will always prevail, his taste is impeccable.
