Everybody and their mother is chomping at the bit for SAW II to hit theaters, and who can blame them with the kick ass content that we've seen so far. A key player in the success of SAW was Producer Gregg Hoffman from Twisted Pictures.

If you read his SAW II Production Diary on the site, then you know the guy is a cool, funny genre fan. Today Mr. Hoffman  shot us an update on 2 other projects called CATACOMBS and SILENCE so I'm gonna give him the floor.

"CATACOMBS Starring Shannyn Sossamon and Alecia Moore (aka Pink),  is the film we shot in Bucharest, Romania and Paris earlier this year. It's about a woman who is taken to an illegal dance party in the Catacombs under Paris - a labyrinth of tunnels 200 miles long under Paris that houses the remains of 7 million dead Parisians - and proceeds to get lost with tragic consequences.

We put the finishing touches on the sound mix a few weeks ago and are just waiting for the titles and the last of the visual effects to be cut in before we deliver the film to Lions Gate. Sometime around the beginning of Ocotober, we'll do a test screening and based on the results, figure out when the film will be released. Well known DJ's Hybrid, who provided additional cues for Tony Scott on both MAN ON FIRE and the upcoming DOMINO did the score, and I think they killed it. It's scary and evocative, but you can also drop some "E" and dance to it!"

"James Wan’s new film SILENCE made for Universal, wrapped production last Thursday.  A tired but happy James is wrapping up his life in Toronto and finally moving to his newly adopted hometown of Los Angeles.  James pretty much hasn’t stopped living out of a suitcase since making SAW, so he needs to find an apartment, get a car, bed, sheets, pots, pans…basically everything required to live!  It may take him a few days, so if there are any attractive James Wan fans in LA who might be willing to house James for a week or so while he gets himself organized, drop me an email and I’ll forward it on to James.  Maybe we should make it a contest.  In 100 words or less, tell me “Why James Wan should live with me."

As for the film itself, all I know for sure is that it couldn’t be any more different than SAW.  Rather than being brutal and “in-your-face” the look and style of SILENCE is much more elegant, subtle and atmospheric.  There’s still plenty of macabre shocks and moments where James creates some incredibly cool shots, but where SAW was considered by some to be an update of an Italian “Giallo,” this one could best be described as an updated Hammer film, with a little David Lynch circa Twin Peaks thrown in for good measure."

Kick ass concepts. Beautiful ladies. Kick ass music. Italian Giallo vibe. Do I even need to say how much I'm looking forward to these? We'll keep you updated on their progress as we hear more.
