Driller Killer redux

You heard of it here first! Now, I've never seen the original Abel "drug loving" Ferrara
directed THE DRILLER KILLER so I
guess its either real good or real bad cause its the next genre baby in line
to get the "remake" treatment. The script and budget are in place, casting
is set to begin in early February and principal photography begins in April.
Drill into it more juicy info below!
UK based production company Masterplan Films Ltd
will pact with Urban Way Productions Ltd to produce a 2.5 million pound remake of the 1979 film, originally directed by Abel Ferrara.
The film will be written and directed by British film maker Andrew Jones
(See his IMDb profile here), who's first feature "The Feral Generation", a gritty urban drama about homeless heroin addicts, hits UK cinemas later this year.
The remake is being re-located to London and is described as being very different to the original. According to the production company the new film is set to bypass the exploitational tone of the original in favour of playing more on the psychological aspects of the
lead character, played by Abel Ferrara in the original, as he slowly descends into madness

Thanks to Andrew for the drills
up!

Alot of people moan, and rightly so, about remakes usually being uneccesary and inferior to the original. The original Driller Killer had some very interesting elements to it but the execution was mundane. So this`ll be a remake that is actually jusitifed and that will improve on the original.

"Like anyone will go see this in a theater."
This film will be more along the lines of 'Repulsion' and 'Taxi Driver' rather than the sleazy exploitation of the first. I think it`ll be a far more interesting film than the original and will definetly appeal to a wider audience.
