Here’s some disappointing news for you 28 DAYS/WEEKS LATER fans: it seems like any immediate plans to do a 28 MONTHS LATER are nil. Zippo... Bloody Disgusting, while not being very specific on their sources, is reporting that Fox Atomic has no real horror on their slate - just the PG-13 remake of THE ENTITY, directed by Hideo Nakata (rolls eyes).

I want to know if this is because of “disappointing” returns for 28 WEEKS ($48 mil worldwide so far - with more to come when the DVD is released), or if it’s because of the false-crisis spurned by HOSTEL 2's meager returns. I don’t want to get into it, because everyone’s got an opinion on this, but my feeling is that the box-office for HOSTEL 2 - a mediocre movie that looked to most people like a rehash of the first one (and pretty much was) - should not be dissuading studios from making R rated horror. If people really wanted to see that film - internet piracy/summer release date/torture-porn fatigue, be damned - they would have seen it. I think it simply looked like a flick people would rather wait to watch on DVD (maybe the same case with 28 WEEKS LATER - although I thought it was a friggin’ awesome theatrical experience, and one of the best movies of the year thus far).

Anyway, we’ll see how this shapes up. I can’t imagine the budgets for HILLS HAVE EYES 2 and 28 WEEKS LATER were way up there, they had to have at least broken even theatrically, so hopefully this is just talk, and the company will attempt to crank out a couple more hardcore horror flicks. At least one more "28" movie, cuz I genuinely want to see what happens to that world that far down the line.

And just because... here's 28 WEEKS LATER's Rose Byrne

Dang, another pointless sequel cancelled? YAY!
I'm glad there won't be sequel. Especially if it was anything like "28 Weeks Later!" It was terrible and almost snooze worthy. Sick of the damn dizzying camera-work too. I will stick to the original flick by the consistently talented Danny Boyle. Yes I know he was the producer, but man the film sure missed his personal touch.
