sick, funny, fairly stupid movie?

| Behold Bruce Campbell |
June 6,
2001 |
|
Source: Empire Online
Speaking with Empire Online, Bruce Campbell shared some thoughts on the upcoming "Spider-Man". Campbell states that Toby Maguire is absolutely deserving of the title role and that we will all be "blown away" when we see him in character. He also made note of the extreme importance of his role as the Ring Announcer. Seriously, I can't wait to see him in it! Campbell's upcoming projects include a cameo in "Servicing Sara" with Matthew Perry and Elizabeth Hurley. He plays Hurley's soon-to-be ex-husband in the film. Then he's on to "The Majestic" with Jim Carrey *insert chin joke here*. And of course we can't forget about the upcoming "Evil Dead: Hail to The King" which will hit the shelves on PC CD-ROM, Playstation and Dreamcast on 22 June. Go Bruce!

| Diesel
is "Hellboy" |
May 31, 2001 |
|
Source: CHUD
Looks like Vin Diesel is set to take the
title role of "Hellboy". CHUD reports that Mike Mignola, creator
of the "Hellboy" comic, is currently working with director
Guillermo Del Toro ("Mimic") on "Blade 2". The story
of "Hellboy" goes something like this (thanks to IMDB for the
plotline)...In the final days of World War II, the Nazis attempt to use
black magic to aid their dying cause. The Allies raid the camp where the
ceremony is taking place, but not before a demon--Hellboy--has already
been conjured. Joining the Allied forces, Hellboy eventually grows to
adulthood, serving the cause of good rather than evil. There were a few
rumors of Ron Perlman being attached to the film (in the title role). No
word on whether Perlman will still be involved.

Release Date for "Jason X" |
May 31,
2001 |
|
Source: e-splatter
If you're holding your breath for
"Jason X", don't bother. e-splatter reports that despite the
fact that some people at New Line are saying that "Jason X" is
coming out Aug. 17, or in 2001 at the very latest, fridaythe13thFilms.com
is voicing a different opinion. e-splatter made a call to New Line's PR
and distribution offices which confirmed that the film does not have a
release date as of yet. New Line's PR department says once a release date
is set, it will be up on their Web site. This would also explain the
holding back of the "Jason X" McFarlane figures. Strange that
they would hold off on a release...I figure they'd want to beat Halloween
to a release date.

Horizons
Sounds like the release of
"Hannibal" & "Silence of the Lambs" on DVD is
going to be a very sweet thing! Dark Horizons reports that
"Hannibal" will come as a 2-disc set consisting of an alternate
ending and about 35 minutes of deleted and extended scenes with optional
commentary by Director Ridley Scott, and a feature-length commentary (also
by Scott). There will be six featurettes exploring different aspects of
the film. Finally, an uncut five-camera, multi-angle breakdown of the fish
market shootout sequence. "The Silence of the Lambs" includes
nearly 20 minutes of "newly discovered" deleted scenes,
outtakes, a making-of featurette, and a new documentary featuring a new
interview with Sir Anthony Hopkins and an archival interview with Jodie
Foster. Lastly there's a voice-mail message that Hopkins left for every
Orion Pictures employee (the film's original distributor) in 1991.

The Vancouver Sun has a very good interview with Jamie Lee Curtis on the set of "Halloween 8". This has so far been the only REAL evidence that she has been there at all so I guess all those rumors can now be put to rest. Sounds like she's having a pretty good time. She also mentions some things about the film that make it sound like it could be a high point in the franchise. Check out the interview (*possible spoilers*)

Some reports are coming in now that William Shatner may be the next to join the cast of "American Psycho 2". The film is starting to sound more like a spoof than a sequel. Shatner will reportedly play "the most revered hunter of the serial-killers the FBI ever produced". Shatner's character is named Professor Robert Strickland, whose last case was that of Mr. Patrick Bateman and is now teaching a class at New York University which Mila Kunis's character will attend.

| Exorcist lawsuit |
May 25,
2001 |
|
Source: Horror Report
William Friedkin and William Blatty have filed a lawsuit against Warner Brothers. The lawsuit claims that they were cheated out of profits from the television and cable distribution, and re-release of "The Exorcist". The re-release of the film was the second biggest reissue of a film (second to the Star Wars series), grossing $40 million at the domestic box office and more than $110 million worldwide. The lawsuit claims that Friedkin and
Blatty lost out on their share of profits due to "sweetheart" licensing deals between Warner, Turner Television and Turner Broadcasting. It also states that CBS paid a below-market rate of $1.5 million for the new Exorcist, supposedly a quarter of it's value. Blatty and Friedkin are suing for an estimated $10 million.

Source: Coming Attractions
A scooper for Coming Attractions spotted "Arac Attack" star David Arquette while dining at the same
restaurant. He approached David and
engaged him in a conversation. During their talk Arquette mentioned that this
film would be his next, and that his wife, Courtney Cox-Arquette, would
also appear in the film. Cox-Arquette isn't actually cast in the film so that would mean that any appearance she makes would be...a cameo perhaps?

The Halloween Movies site has posted a couple of photos of the asylum rooftop. To see a look at one of
two buildings that have been recreated inside a 1,200 foot-long
building on Vancouver's harbor click here.
Reportedly there haven't been any photos taken of Jamie Lee Curtis in
character, so we probably won't get a look at the updated Laurie Strode
until the release. Curtis will shoot for only four
days, although that does seem to contradict an earlier comment from Rick
Rosenthal who said Curtis would launch the movie off with a very strong 30
minutes. Or maybe they just shoot fast. I'm starting to wonder about those rumors again. Nobody can REALLY confirm that she has been on the set, except the production company of course...

| "War of the Worlds" will be made! |
May 23,
2001 |
|
Source: Horror Report
Pendragon Pictures has released a statement announcing the production of "War of the Worlds". Production will begin in September. This "non-campy", live action production of the H. G. Wells classic will be directed by Pendragon C.E.O. Timothy Hines and produced by Susan Goforth based on their screenplay. Susan Goforth will also star in the production. They are staying away from casting major stars as they feel this would take away from the story. The film will be made on a $42 million budget using the same technology (the CineAlta HD system) George Lucas used for his upcoming "Star Wars" installment. Goforth claims that
"response to our screenplay has been overwhelmingly positive. The aliens in "War of the Worlds" are not just creatures in big fast mindless lumbering machines. They are devious and cunning and know how to use propaganda to turn humanity against each other. Everyone has come away from the script telling us that when we film this story, it will be the most frightening movie ever made."
"War of the Worlds" will premiere at Cannes 2003.

Source: Horror Report and Popcorn
Wes Craven has agreed to direct and produce "Alice", a feature-length film based on the new computer game from American McGee (creator of "Quake" and "Doom"). According to the UK site Popcorn, the game is said to be a gory, gothic version of Lewis Carroll's "Alice In Wonderland". John August ("Go" & "Charlie's Angels") was recently hired to write the script. Apparently, the project is part of a new deal McGee has signed with Dimension Films to help develop new film ideas.

| "Web of Darkness" site up |
May 23,
2001 |
|
Source: Creature Corner
The site is up and looking good for "The Web of Darkness". The film centers on Mike (Rick
Shiebel) and Julie (Pati White). Julie is a Vampire fanatic reading books and watching every film she can on the subject.
Mike introduces her to a chat site called, ‘The Web of Darkness’ where people who truly believe they are Vampire gather to meet. Against Mike's wishes, Julie decides to meet with one of the so-called Vampire to gather information for a school project. The person Julie meets with turns out to be a true Vampire that bites her to start her on the course to becoming one herself. Now Mike must save Julie before the Vampire can finish his work on her and he loses her forever...sounds cool! The film also stars Tom Savini and Brinke Stevens! Creature-Corner reports that as far as release goes it's looking like a possible U.S. theatrical release, but more likely straight to
video/DVD either late this year or early 2002. Check out the official site for the film
here.

| Tomaselli's "Horror" |
May 23,
2001 |
|
Source: e-splatter
I haven't heard much about this project until now. Felissa Rose spoke about it quite enthusiastically in her interview with the Arrow a while back but otherwise I couldn't find much dirt on it. E-Splatter reports that director Dante Tomaselli ("Desecration"), is coming back with a new movie that they describe as a "psychological zombie" film. The film is being shot in 16mm for a budget of around $100,000. "Horror" promises to be a grass roots kind of horror flick...with [hopefully] minimal studio influence. Felissa Rose
("Sleepaway Camp") appears in the film. Check out her interview with the Arrow

| A Fourth "Night of the Living Dead" ? |
May 23,
2001 |
|
Source: Coming Attractions
Coming Attractions has been reporting on the 'possibility' of this film dating back to 1997. George Romero had stated that if a 4th installment were made it would be by his hand. Well apparently George is now writing the fourth film. The only info that could be
gathered about the project was that "It's not going to be called Twilight of the Dead. It's not going to be called Dusk of the Dead. That's as much as can be said, at this point." Most recently Coming Attractions reports that while appearing at the Motor City Comicon this past weekend, Tom Savini told them that George Romero has written 40 pages of the new Dead movie. When asked if Savini would be doing the SFX for the movie, he replied "I certainly hope to!"

| Cube 2 at last! |
May 22,
2001 |
|
Source: Upcoming Movies
Well, the wait is finally over! "Cube 2: Hypercube" is going to be made. Phew, I was getting worried. The screenplay is being written by Sean Hood
(co-writer of "Halloween: The Homecoming"). The story will involve eight strangers who find themselves waking up in a strange cube-shaped room with no recollection of how they came to be there. Soon discovering that they're in a strange fourth dimension where our laws of physics don't apply, they have to unravel the secrets of the "hypercube" in order to survive. The first one wasn't too bad, a sequel could be interesting if it's done right. Filming starts later this year somewhere in Canada.

First week of filming is wrapped and reportedly Jamie's a really fun girl. Curtis gave several of the crew members mementos, and even autographed a Michael

suppose sanitariums probably don't vary that much...white walls, bars...
