Bale's role in T4? Dec. 3, 2007

UPDATE: Variety has confirmed the below report that Bale will play John Connor, although no further info about the part was given. The article also (finally) officially confirms McG as director.

Nov. 30, 2007 -- Recent online rumors place fanboy fave Christian Bale in another major franchise, namely the refreshed TERMINATOR series, which is launching a hypothetical new trilogy with the abominably titled TERMINATOR SALVATION: THE FUTURE BEGINS, from universally acclaimed director McG.

However, there seemed to be some question as to whether Bale would play postapocalyptic hero John Connor, an advanced UK model of Terminator, or a completely new character to the franchise.

CHUD has cast some light on the specifics: Bale is apparently playing Connor, although it is essentially a "supporting role" and that the new flick features a different character on the front lines, with Connor more of a metal-masher of legend. The theory is that this would require less of a time commitment from Bale, but still puts a genre-friendly face on the man we've been hearing so much about since Reese bopped back through time almost a quarter-century ago (or from now -- damn chronal paradoxes!).

Extra Tidbit: Bale is reportedly in some other movie about a costumed hero.

Big bucks pay day.
Bale isn't stupid is he? Minimal days on the lot for maximum money, because the rest of the cast will be low cost and low rent.

I think it's a really good idea. I mean, this franchise really hasn't had all that good of actors in it.

Bale did do Reign of Fire!?
But seems like he's pulling a Hale Berry, doesn't it?
They should just call it
Terminator: Insert cheesy title here and then we'll change it when it gets flamed online.

Wait...I'm confused...McG is directing, the guys who wrote Catwoman are writing...but Christian Bale is actually going to agree to star in it?...I think that Christian Bale is awesome, but for terminator 4? No. No thanks. I'm still going to remain somewhat open to the slight possibility of this movie NOT sucking tremendously, but honestly, I agree with reddwarffan in saying that I don't think Bale, despite his awesomeness, can save this flick.

Still fairly sure (or hopeful) that this flick will never hit cinemas. Personally I thought all the Future War segments in T1 and T2 weren't all that exciting anyway. And the whole idea of this movie kind of does shit all over Cameron's original work.

T1 - Save the mother of leader of the resistance
T2 - Possibly put a stop to Judgment Day.

It should've ended there, but any Terminator project that follows is basically saying "Yeahhh... Everything that happened in T2 doesn't really count for dick. Sorry."

I don't mean to take the movies too seriously or anything, and if T4 actually turns out to be a good movie, that'd be fantastic. But considering T1 and T2 are masterpieces of sci-fi action, it'd be nice if the series was just left alone.

This seems weird to me. It doesn't seem like the kinda film Bale would be in at this point. He seems to be much pickier than he used to be. Even Harsh Times which was a bust was a very different character which probably sparked his interest, but he has played this role before kinda in Reign of Fire. Plus I remember an interview where he said he wouldn't be Bond or Batman because of fear of typecasting. In defense, Batman Begins with Christopher Nolan is probably the kinda batman he would want to do. Dramatic, serious, and done by a director who seems to not want to do back to back sequels (thank god).

This is good. Bale will give teh film some legitimacy as a supporting actor but if the film does become something awful then his legend won't be stained. He'll probably be looked at as being in the good parts. If he starred and the film was terrible then it might be seen as partly his fault. so, this all to say that I'm happy.
