 The first person who comes to mind when thinking of a bikini-clad, sex-crazed space adventurer ridding the world of intergalactic villains one orgasm at a time should be…Halle Berry? According to these people (found courtesy of JoBlo.com pal and all around pimp daddy Paul from The Hollywood News), Berry "…has recently confirmed her continued status as a sex symbol by nabbing the lead-role in the Barbarella remake." Um, when exactly did she do that? Interview? Profile? Overheard drunken slur? if someone can find a reference for this supposed confirmation, that'd be aces. Anyhoo, what do you guys think of Berry stepping into Jane Fonda's space boots? She certainly has the "sexy" aspect of the character covered. Although considering Robert Rodriguez, who's directing the remake, is currently dating an actress (Rose McGowan) who I'm not entirely convinced isn't a sexpot space adventurer, you'd think she'd be a shoe-in for the role. Please, strike back at will.
Extra Tidbit:
In the original BARBARELLA, the evil city of SoGo to which Barbsie travels is a reference to the Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah.

...really understood peoples draw to her. I don't find her particularly attractive or talented, and I hated her as the choice for Storm, but that was miscasting on Singer's part. She does have name recognition, so people who don't know of the original might be drawn to it. More to the point; I'd rather see a talented, young, unknown take on the part rather than Berry. |

I love Robert Rodriguez... he has made a casting mistake or two before (Jessica Alba as Nancy Callahan, anyone) but it didn't hurt the film overall. In this case, Berry would be playing the main fucking character! That's going to hurt... and I certainly don't think that a director who had the balls to quit the Director's Guild is going to make a PG-13 version of BARBARELLA. How about this for supporting casting though: Simon Le Bon as Duran Duran? |

I LOATHE Halle Berry. I have loathed her as an actress for many, many years. The only film I ever liked her in was THE LAST BOY SCOUT... because she was killed in a particularly brutal way. I wanted to literally sob when I heard she was being cast as Storm in X-MEN. She just disgusts me. If you buy that she really didn't show her tits in SWORDFISH for a few extra hundred grand, you're an idiot. |

Anywho...
I don't know if Berry is 'Barberella'...(First Drew Barrymore, then Rose McGowan, then Halle Berry)...
Barberella has to be 'innocently sexy' which I think Berry can pull off...
Unfortunately, Berry has been making wrong choices for films lately, but then again Rodriguez has been on a little roll lately with 'Sin City'...then 'Grindhouse' (which I hear is better than Tarantino's part)...
So, who knows?
I'm interested to see how this goes... |
