Black Lagoon director?

For quite some time, Gary Ross (SEABISCUIT) was developing a remake of CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON for Universal. After what seems like an eternity, the film has finally found its director. Universal is in talks with Carl Erik Rinsch, son-in-law of Ridley Scott, to direct the film. While you might not know much of Rinsch’s work yet, he was in talks to direct the ALIEN prequel and recently signed with Universal to direct 47 RONIN with Keanu Reeves.

While BLACK LAGOON still doesn’t have a greenlight, the talks with Rinsch seem to indicate that things are moving forward nicely. It’s also a sign that Universal is very serious about relaunching the classic Universal Monsters. The “Universal Monsters Legacy” is a big part of promoting THE WOLFMAN and even has its own dedicated website. It’s hard to judge the decision to bring Rinsch aboard but he’s certainly getting a lot of buzz in Hollywood lately and I think it’s a far better choice than Breck Eisner who was previously attached.
