Bloom in Supes 2? Apr. 10, 2007

Source: New York Post

Now I'm well aware that Page Six of the New York Post isn't exactly a beacon of journalistic integrity, but they do what they do pretty well and what they do is gossip. Seeing people out and about and reporting on that. Well just recently they saw Orlando Bloom, Bryan Singer and SUPERMAN RETURNS producer Jon Peters having dinner. And what, pray tell, were they talking about? Why roles in SUPERMAN RETURNS AGAIN of course! Of course the Sixers weren't able to get close enough to hear what role they were talking about for Bloom. What do you think it might be? Brainiac would be the obvious choice (in my mind) for a SUPERMAN sequel villain but I don't see Bloom as very Brainiac-esque. I always felt that a great villain for a Superman movie would be Conduit. I thought he was a character with a great concept - he grew up with Clark in Smallville and was exposed to high levels of kryptonite radiation when Kal-El crashes on Earth - but was misused in the comic. He's basically a dying cancer patient with a major grudge against Clark/Superman and who's body emanates the one thing that can actually stop him. Of course I'm not saying Bloom would play Conduit... It is interesting that Bloom is about the same age as Routh's Superman. SUPERMAN RETURNS TOO! isn't expected to begin filming until late 2008 as Singer will begin work later this year on an untitled WWII thriller with Tom Cruise.

Extra Tidbit: Wasn't Bloom was one of the names mentioned back when SUPERMAN was casting the first time around?

Spot on guys. I didn't bush the returns as I felt Singer was reigniting the series. Now its time to go hard and start showing supes being pushed to the limit!

It wont be Zod. I read an interview with Routh who said that the largest complaint they got about the first movie was there there was barely any hand to hand combat. He said that they plan on having a villain that Superman could interact with and not destroy with the flick of a finger. I was thinking maybe Metallo. That would be a great villain and they could still use Lex Luthor. Luthor usually plays a role in trying to bring down Superman, for example Superman 2 and 4. Anyway, i think the days of Superman remakes are behind us. It's time to give rebirth to the series. And dear God I hope theres no justice league stuff. Not yet. That needs to be its own franchise. I don't really care for what its doing in Smallville and I don't want that same kind of mark in this new series.

I agree with the no Luthor/Zod stuff. Well, I’d still have Luthor, but in a much smaller role.

I’d like to see the next movie start out in space, with a flashback to Kal-El’s return to the Krypton wasteland. Only, we then see that Brainac was monitoring him. The credits roll with Brainac journey to Earth to track Supes. Maybe end the credits by showing his ship emerge as he passes the Krytonian continent from Returns as he settles into orbit of Earth.

Then make it a Brainiac movie, for the most part. Only to see Darkseid enter in the final act, ending with Superman captured by Darkseid. Then have the third movie play out the “Legacy” story from the Animated series. Supes, brainwashed, rages war on Earth. The government contracts Luthor to bring him down. Luthor gets his pardon and gains public support over this and starts to show political aspirations. The finale would have Kal-El overcome his brainwashing (probably something to do with the kid) and go to Apokalips to kick all kinds of ass, ending with an epic battle with Darkseid. Then have the very end being Supes talking to Lois about how he can win back the people’s trust…

…Enter the Justice League…

As far as Bloom, I’d like to see him as a character that interacts with Clark/Supes, but is kind of mysterious. Then it’s revealed that he’s Darkseid’s liaison to Earth and was summing up the situation.

Of course he's going to be Zod. Singer basically remade the first Donner Superman with his movie so why wouldn't he just redo Superman 2 as well?

And the less said about that insanely feminine "Gandalf..." when they're on the steps before the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, the better.

Especially now that he has a kid! Doomsday saga is what the world needs. Justice League would more be used with your b grade characters, also put in Wonder Woman to spice it up.!

I'd actually be for a Doomsday movie. You could have the Superman funeral with all the other supes grieving. You'd have to montage the new Supes that are created before he comes back himself. But you could montage it with a news anchor explaining real quickly that 4 new Supes have been spotted and everything and then have the real Supes come back in the last few minutes.

The Justice League flick hasn't even been written yet... the story was that they hired some guys to write the thing. For all we know, it could just be a thing to see how it would work. I can't see them abandoning DC's biggest franchise for an ensemble piece movie. The only reason Superman Returns didn't bank anything was because it was stuck in production hell for a decade and they paid Cage and Burton insane amounts of money in their "pay or play" deals, where they made huge bank for not even shooting a day's worth of footage.

Depending on what hes doing, it could work.. im not going to say hes going to play a villian because their are a zillion characters good or bad that he could be playing and he just doesnt seem like a villian type. And if you saw the Richard Donner cut of Supes 2, you can see why they can bring back Zod, but still if they just HAVE to put in Zod make it another villian or 2 who break Zod out and then it could be like a 3 on 1 type deal or something. But plz.. not Zod by himself .. i could jus watch superman 2 for that.

Dude, I agree with Hybridk1.
Enough with the recycling...there are lots and lots of vilans to be used. And Bloom??? Just forget about him...too much of a p*ssy to be a vilan.
My 2 cents.

Can you imagine if Orlando Bloom was Zod? It would be great:

"Kneel before Zod!"
"Um, no. You were a whiny p*ssy in Elizabethtown."
[pouts] "Please kneel before Zod?"
"No, dude."
