Charlize Theron tries to relive her glory days in Young Adult... coming to DVD/Blu-ray
February 6, 2012
UPDATE: Special features have been added in along with an updated release date.
Diablo Cody has been on my radar (and many other people’s radar) ever since she won an Oscar for penning the screenplay to indie flick Juno. Here follow-up, Jennifer’s Body, was pretty terrible but then she redeemed herself with the TV series The United States of Tara, starring Toni Collette (which Cody wrote and created). Cody hasn’t really been around much since the TV series got cancelled, but she did write the screenplay for the critically acclaimed film YOUNG ADULT. And for bonus points, Cody is working on a screenplay for Evil Dead ANNNND (ladies, prepare to get excited) Sweet Valley High.
However, let’s backtrack to YOUNG ADULT… In addition to Diablo Cody’s involvement in the film, Canadian quirky filmmaker extraordinaire, Jason Reitman (who worked with Cody on Juno) directs YOUNG ADULT. You’ll remember Reitman from other films (besides Juno) such as Thank You For Smoking and 2009’s surprise hit Up In The Air.
The synopsis for YOUNG ADULT is this: ”Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature, returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart. When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate who hasn't quite gotten over high school either.”
I haven’t even gotten a chance to mention the incredible cast of this film that includes Charlize Theron (who needs no explanation as to why she’s awesome), Patrick Wilson, Patton Oswalt and Elisabeth Reaser. Not an A-lister heavy movie, but the actors and actresses that are involved are top notch.
I can’t even begin to express how all of the snark in this movie just makes me giddy. This just appeals to me in every which way possible, between the writer, director and the cast. I haven’t had a chance to check out YOUNG ADULT yet and fortunately, I’ll be able to finally check it out in the near future. Paramount hasn’t officially announced the release yet, but it looks like YOUNG ADULT will be arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on March 13.
YOUNG ADULT Special Features:
• Commentary by director Jason Reitman, director of photography Eric Steelberg and first assistant director/associate producer Jason A. Blumenfeld
• The Awful Truth: Deconstructing a Scene
• Deleted Scenes
