As we probably are all aware of by now, the first film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ THE HUNGER GAMES series is on its way to theaters on March 23. The film will star the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci and a whole buttload of other people. The movie, is not really what I’m going to talk about though, so I won’t get into it too much.

As mentioned, the movie is adapted by a series of books that sort of have a Battle Royale feel to them (although the author claims to have never heard of BR before). The synopsis for the series is this ”In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.”

In the books, one thing that people talk about a lot is food. That’s not all they talk about, but Collins goes into a lot of detail about things that Katniss eats, how the people of the Capitol eat and how the people of the other districts eat. With all the hype about the series going around between the rising popularity of the books and the impending release of the movie, people are coming up with ways to get in on the action.

Emily Ansara Baines has found one such way to (unofficially) Capitol-ize (ha… see what I did there?). She’s released THE UNOFFICIAL HUNGER GAMES COOKBOOK, where she’s come with over 150 recipes inspired from the trilogy of books.

Recipes include:
• French Bread from the Mellark Family Bakery
• Katniss' Favorite Lamb Stew with Dried Plums
• Rue's Roasted Parsnips
• Gale's Bone-Pickin' Big Game Soup
• Capitol-Grade Dark Chocolate Cake
