David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo coming to DVD and Blu-ray
February 13, 2012
UPDATE: Special features for the release have been confirmed (see below) and cover art has been added in.
If there was one movie that people were expecting big things from this year, it was David Fincher’s adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. The film is Fincher’s follow-up to last year’s wildly successful The Social Network and thus far, it’s been pretty successful itself. While the film had an estimated budget of $90 million big ones, it has brought in $76.9 million since it came out in theaters on December 20.
EDIT: Between the time this article was originally published and updated, the amount of money that TGWTDT has brought in at the box office has increased to $99.9 million. Whoa.
If you aren’t familiar with the trilogy of books that the film is based on or the Swedish movie that came out a while back, here’s the synopsis for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO: ”One fateful day several years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses and no evidence. Nearly forty years later, investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist reluctantly accepts the unusual and seemingly unsolvable assignment of finding out what really happened to Harriet. Genius hacker, Lisbeth Salander is drawn into the case and the two form a fragile alliance as they dig into the sinister past of the Vangers and find out just how far they're prepared to go to protect themselves and each other.”
I have to say that when I first found out that they were making an American version of the film, I flipped out a little bit. Like why the f*ck can people just leave foreign films alone? It seems like every film I love (like the original Swedish version) gets Americanized. The American version of Let The Right One In (Let Me In) was pretty good, but to me, it still didn’t top the original. And then all these TV series’ from across the pond keep getting American versions and it’s just making me a little crazy. I actually have yet to see Fincher’s adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, so I’ll try to remain open-minded to it, especially since I already love the hell out of the soundtrack.
It looks like THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is on its way to DVD and Blu-ray. Fincher's adaptation of the film will be arriving on store shelves on March 20.
