blu rays dvd News | Face-Off: Real Steel vs. Transformers 3

Ok... so, I haven't seen Real Steal but I really wanted to. I, like another guy, haven't been able to get it at the red box yet. From what i'm told it's pretty good, from a pure entertainment value point of view. Now I have seen T3 and it was bad, not T2 bad but somebody cut this down 30 min. bad. Even though the cast was "popular" they were terrible. Dempsy was atrocious, just terrible and Lebouf was worse than Crystal Skull. So, even with out seeing Real Steal I have to say this is wrong.
I love Transformers and I love Nemoy, so how did you fuck that up Bay?

what a fucking pioneer of comedy...hadnt heard that one in the last day or so. formulaic and sugar-laced as it was...give me Real Steel anyday over the piss-poor handling of the Transformers.

The only point of the break down I agree with is the title. Just because TF3 has a larger and (mostly) better known cast doesn't mean those actors are good. I love Tudyk (see him in 'Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil' to see how great he can be) but playing a stereotypical and offensive gay person, he was awful. Shia gave the worst performance of his career in this. I could go on about the cast, but to make it brief, aside from Peter Cullen everyone else sucked. As for 'directors', aren't Levy and Bay both the same on level for film buffs, in terms of how much hated they get (sometimes, not deserved)? As such, shouldn't we focus on which made the better film? In that case, Real Steel wins, as it has good fight sequences and acting. As for the whole 'it didn't know what kind of movie it wants to be'- that exact charge can (and should be leveled) at TF3. Is it a movie about an entitled asshole that can't get a job? Is it an offensive comedy about 'Deep Wang'? Or is it a movie about goddamned giant space alien robots fighting each other? Considering how little of the titular characters are in this (or any of the three films really), I am not too sure it is that last. This Face Off was an awful joke.

Transformers 3 was way better than Transformers 2, but no way better than Real Steel.

Real Steel was a far superior movie to any of the Transformers. I almost didn't go see it because I thought it would be like Transformers. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm convinced you're one of those movie-goers who just likes hot actors/actresses and big explosions...in other words, michael bay's target audience. i'll give you the titles argument, as theres no denying the powerful effect on movie-goers just by simply adding in the word "transformers" in the title has. for director, yes bay obviously has the pedigree and credentials. but in terms of the actual directing of each movie, Transformers 3 was a train wreck. maybe if he hadnt spend half an hour on setting up the introduction, he wouldve had time to end the movie, you know, NOT ridiculously abruptly. and it seemed the movie was leading us to believe that shockwave would be the main villain next to megatron....nope! sure the giant skyscraper-eating metal earthworm was freakin cool, but shockwave took a backseat to megatron and sentinel prime. not nearly as much screen time as he deserved. the stupid vulture decepticon and sam's extremely irritating co-worker?? that was bay's patented attempt at stupid humor. in terms of casting, yes transformers had all the superstars. that doesnt mean they were good though. in real steel, ya i thought the kid was a little annoying. but the chemistry between jackman and the gorgeous evangeline lilly more than made up for it. meanwhile, that victorias secret model couldnt act whatsoever. which is to be expected because shes not, you know, an actress. not as bad as i thought she'd be, granted, but in no way is she a good actress. standing up to megatron and turning him against sentinel?? first, NO ONE should be able to talk to megatron like that and expect to live longer than 10 seconds. 2nd, that was such a cop-out just to have her have an impact on the story. as for soundtracks, i thought iridescent was the only song in transformers? that was the definition of overusing a song to make it more 'emotional.' as for entertainment, ya transformers was bearable because its filled with hot women/men and giant robots fighting to the death. but real steel actually resonated emotionally. it tells a great story. jackman goes from being a single, greedy, selfish jerk to being a loving father/boyfriend. sam witwicky goes from moping around that he doesnt matter anymore to...what, exactly? not sure what character progression he went through. transformers 3 was definitely the worst movie of the trilogy. real steel, which was a beautiful mix of being an action film and a family film, stands head and shoulders above transformers 3.
