Not too long ago, I powered through the first two seasons of Showtime’s THE BIG C. When the show first aired, I caught the first episode and wasn’t head-over-heels for it and ended up ignoring it for quite a while. However, after the Pilot episode, I couldn’t stop watching and made it through both seasons in 2-days. Laura Linney is absolutely brilliant in it and I can’t say enough good things about it.

Now, the first season of the show is good and all, but things really start to get crazy for Linney’s character Cathy in the second season. If you aren’t familiar with THE BIG C, the general synopsis for the show is this: ”Cathy Jamison is a reserved suburban wife/mother/teacher whose recent cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life and find hope, humor and the light side of a dark situation, while managing her immature but well-meaning husband.”

The show is made even better by additional cast members Oliver Platt, Gabourey Sidibe, John Benjamin Hickey and Gabriel Basso, who plays Cathy’s little sh*t of a son. Adding even MORE awesomeness is the Season Two guest stars who include Hugh Dancy, Cynthia Nixon, Parker Posey and my personal favourite guest appearance by Idris Elba (MARRY ME, m'kay?).

I can’t even WAIT for the third season of THE BIG C to begin airing again on April 8, given the massive cliffhanger that we get left with at the end of Season Two. I won’t give anything away in case you haven’t seen the show, but it’s like WHOA. Anyways, a week before the third season is set to begin airing, the second season of THE BIG C will arrive solely on DVD. Not sure why there’s no Blu-ray planned since I totally would buy this in HD, but whatever… the DVD release of THE BIG C SEASON 2 is set for April 3. Thus far no cover art or special features have been announced for the release, but those details should follow shortly.
