MPI announces a Dark Shadows Complete Original Series boxset for DVD

On May 11, we’re going to be getting a new Tim Burton movie. Of course, it isn’t an original film, it’s a film that Burton has decided to adapt from a long-running, cult classic TV series. The adaptation will star Johnny Depp (who I’m starting to suspect is just someone Burton made up with CGI), Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Lee and of course Helena Bonham Carter (who didn’t see that coming?). What film do I speak of? DARK SHADOWS, of course!
However, here in the Digital Dorm, we’re not focused on what’s coming to theaters so much as what’s coming to DVD and Blu-ray (among other things). So given that we have a release date for the DARK SHADOWS feature film, it’s naturally the right time for the TV series DVDs to be released. The DVDs have been available before, but they’ve mostly been in released in small sets that can take ages to collect (specifically, 32 different volume sets released between 2002 and 2008). What’s on its way now is much more awesome, for those who are fans of the original series.
On April 10, MPI will be releasing DARK SHADOWS – THE COMPLETE ORIGINAL SERIES in a massive 131-disc set, containing a whopping 1225 episodes. WHOA, right?
The set hasn’t been formally announced by MPI yet, but we do know it’s coming and if there are any special features to be included… I don’t even know if one would have time to watch this with 1225 episodes to get through… Regardless, more details will likely follow shortly.
