Oscar nominated film The Descendants gets a March release date
February 8, 2012
In the last 7 years or so, George Clooney has been nominated for an Oscar four times, with his nomination for the film THE DESCENDANTS (announced today) being his fifth. The only Oscar he ended up taking home was for his role in Syriana, but many people believe that his nomination this year will lead to another win for him. I haven’t actually seen THE DESCENDANTS yet, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it and I’ve been following it as it snatches up awards left, right and center.
The synopsis for THE DESCENDANTS, in case you’re unfamiliar with it, is this: ”Matt King is an indifferent husband and father of two girls, living in Hawaii, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident. The event makes him try to re-connect with his daughters while he wrestles with a decision to sell the family's land handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.”
THE DESCENDANTS, which again stars the one and only George Clooney, will be arriving on home video shortly. Most of these Oscar hopeful films don’t arrive until after the ceremony so that they can have the opportunity to put “WON 5 OSCARS!” “BEST ACTOR – GEORGE CLOONEY” all over their DVD/Blu-ray packaging to make people want to watch it even more. For the films that haven’t already come out on DVD and Blu-ray yet, we can likely expect them sometime after the Academy Awards ceremony on February 26, 2012. The special features haven't been announced for THE DESCENDANTS yet but it looks like the film will be arriving in stores on March 13.
Want another reason to watch THE DESCENDANTS? Well, since NBC announced that they were putting fan favourite TV series, Community on hiatus, fans have joined forces to combat the decision and to bring the show back to TV. If you’re one of those people who was outraged at the near loss of the show, then it’s likely that you’re pretty familiar with the characters: Jeff, Britta, Annie, Abed, Troy, Pierce, Shirley and of course, the quirky Greendale Dean Pelton. Jim Rash plays Dean Pelton and when he isn’t spending his time on the set of Community, he apparently utilizes his other talents… and by talents, I mean his mad writing skills. THE DESCENDANTS screenplay is penned by Rash along with Sideways writer Alexander Payne and Nat Faxon. Crazy, right?
