Werner Herzog's Into The Abyss coming to DVD and Blu-ray
January 20, 2012
If you haven’t seen any of his movies, I think most people have at least heard the name Werner Herzog. He’s directed over 60 titles since 1962 and some of his more noteable works include Grizzly Man, Rescue Dawn, The Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call – New Orleans, My Son My Son What Have Ye Done and Cave Of Forgotten Dreams. In addition to being a great director, Herzog has additionally written all of the movies he’s directed, with the exception of a few that he co-wrote, which is pretty impressive for the amount of work that he’s done.
Last year, the aforementioned Cave Of Forgotten Dreams was released in theaters and recently on DVD and Blu-ray and this year, Herzog released the feature length documentary, INTO THE ABYSS. The film had a limited release in North America and is apparently going to be released in theaters in the UK in March.
If you haven’t heard of INTO THE ABYSS, check out the synopsis for the film: ”Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog returns with INTO THE ABYSS, a riveting examination of a horrible crime which probes the human psyche to explore why people kill--and why the state kills. In intimate conversations with those involved, including 28-year-old death row inmate Michael Perry (who was scheduled to die eight days after his interview with Herzog), the filmmaker achieves what he describes as "a gaze into the abyss of the human soul." As he's so often done before, Herzog's investigation unveils layers of humanity, making an enlightening trip out of ominous territory.”
Now that you know a little bit more INTO THE ABYSS, I’ll also tell you that it’s been announced for a DVD and Blu-ray release. Whether you’ve seen any of Herzog’s movies or not, I think everyone should at least check out one and this looks a pretty powerful film. INTO THE ABYSS will be making its way onto home video in the spring on April 10. No special features have been unveiled yet and we don’t know what the cover art for the release will look like. Those things will likely be announced shortly when an official press release is issued.
