WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Boy starts at new school and meets girl. Boy gets loaded douche to pay bad boy to date girlís sister as he can only date girl if sister also dates. As always, boy doesnít think his plan through and it blows up in his face. You know, just another day at High School.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Itís hard for me to believe that ten years have gone by since 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU hit the theaters. Other than thoughts of a happy go lucky Heath Ledger lost to us forever, I couldnít help but notice (and enjoy) some risky humor that no doubt pushed this film to the border of its PG-13 rating, something I also find has been lost to us lately in anything shy of R rated material. These days, the writing is either one side of the spectrum or the other, meaning itís either raunchy as hell (AMERICAN PIE style) or a lame as shit connect the dots comedy. It was nice to revisit a pleasant mixture that plays it safe, but isnít afraid to hit the gas.

Now I wonít argue the fact that this storyline has seen more than its fair share of incarnations over the past ten years (and ultimately just takes a slightly tweaked approach to CANíT BUY ME LOVE), but seeing as how Hollywood is STILL shamelessly lobbing out these scenarios today, I canít deny thinking this was (and still is) a fun concept to play around with. The writing here is solid, and the High School vibe believable, but in the event that any of you missed this gem, donít expect to be surprised by this formula. Itís a basic recipe, but that doesnít mean it has to be bland.

The real treat here is catching an early look at some of our actors and actresses, and playing the ďwhere are they nowĒ game (may Heath rest in peace). Iíd totally forgotten that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in this bad bay, and itís always a pleasure to see him, though heíll forever be Cobra Commander to me now. Back when this came out, for some reason, I always got Julia Stiles and Ali Larter mixed up. I like Stiles, but other than her minute roles in the BOURNE series, she hasnít really been front page lately, which is a shame. Both the acting and character chemistry here still put a smile on my face, especially the eccentric teachers.

10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU was never one of my favorites, or ďthat movieĒ you saw in theaters and rushed out to buy on DVD, but it was still a pleasant film to revisit and looks great on Blu-ray (for what it is). This is one of those flicks that I just assume everyone has seen at this point, and the good news is if you have yet to catch it, rest assured that this babyís aged well and is just as good as it ever was. As Iíve said before, Iím a big fan of High School adventures, so my opinion on the subject is a touch bias. However, if you like this genre of comedy I see no reason why you wouldnít enjoy this film.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary: This commentary was a misleading dud for me as none of the cool cast were are here so itís nowhere near as fun as it could have been. At the very least, those present (the older peeps from the 10 years later special feature) are having a blast with it.

10 Things I love about 10 Things I hate about you 10 years later: This thirty-five minute ďlook backĒ is interesting but not quite the way Iíd hoped. We get lots of interviews from the main crew (from ten years ago), but the only recent stuff is from a couple of the less interesting cast like the principle. Itís still cool to get some old school Heath Ledger though.

Deleted Scenes: This is yet another misleading feature as the brief five minutes of dull footage is spliced onto the end of the last feature, instead of being separate. Dumb.

Previews: We get three trailers and a Blu-ray commercial.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
The visuals here are nothing special, meaning you donít get much push out of the HD and the only extra feature is a ď10 year look backĒ which EVERY film seems to be doing these days to squeeze a little more cash out of our pockets. So I donít see the need for a double dip if you already own it. If not, game on bitches!

Extra Tidbit: I miss ya Heath.
