Gael Garcia Bernal
I want to say that A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN tries very hard to not be clichť, but that would be a lie. Itís entirely possible that they are, in fact, trying to be exceptionally clichť. Pretty and successful girl makes her own fate, until she gets cancer. Pretty, successful girl (now with cancer) doesnít want to open up to any boysÖ until she meets one that makes her change her mind. A DREAMY DOCTOR. Too bad Doctor McDreamy is practically trademarked to Greyís Anatomy.
The dialogue isnít even that hokey for the film and the writing isnít that terrible either. Itís just not very good and it makes the film one shoulder shrug away from being forgotten after I finish writing this review.
As a random sidebar, I canít quite fathom why crazy women are romanticized in these movies. Like, if I were Gael Garcia Bernalís character, Iíd be all ďCheck ya LATER ladyÖ cancer or not, youíre effing NUTS!Ē but no. The dreamy man always falls for the crazy lady. Whatevs.
ONE LAST NOTE: A small cameo is made by one of my favourite TV characters. Or more accurately, the person who plays the character makes an appearance in the movie. It isnít a great role and I donít want to spoil who it is, but it rhymes with Shmyrion Cannister. I donít think itís worth checking out the film just for him, but it did put a smile on my face. But yeah, Iíll be over in the corner being punny if needed.
