WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A group of four horny high school buddies decide to make a pact in which they all plan to lose their virginities before the high school prom. In their valiant quest for getting their collective rocks off, the boys get into all kinds of trouble and wildly unpredictable hilarity ensues.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
American Pie single-handedly revived the long dead "teen sex comedy" genre for the 90s, bringing us back to the good ol days of PORKY'S and FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH. Its about freaking time too! Filled with crude sexual jokes, nasty visual gags and plenty of big time laughs, this movie seriously delivers the goods and kicks big time ass as one hell of a fun comedy. It does a great job of capturing the essence of high school and the pressures associated with it, not to mention all of those awkward moments to which we can all relate. Youve got your geeks, jocks, skanks and weirdos, all the people who made high school the best (or worst) times of your life. The ensemble cast do a fantastic job and props go out to newcomer Jason Biggs for degrading himself on countless occasions, just to score a few cheap laughs. Way to go, bro! (His dad, Eugene Levy is even funnier) Oh, and in case youre wondering, this one also manages to deliver some fairly generous helpings of T&A, courtesy of the bootylicious Shannon Elizabeth. America Pie is one funny ass movie and I can only hope that the sequel lives up the original.
THE EXTRAS
First up is a Spotlight on Location featurette (10 minutes) which clocks in as your basic run of the mill fluff piece. Its got some brief interviews with cast and crew but doesnt really shed too much light on the making of the flick. uttakes (2.5 minutes) are probably one of the best extras, chockfull of laugh out loud moments presented in rough footage. "The Deleted Scenes run about 6 minutes and are also worth checking out. They're not necessarily all funny but definitely add little nuances to the movie. Next up is Music Highlights which allows you to jump directly to all the songs featured in the movie. The only sucky thing is that the sound clips are directly from the movie, so theyre not presented by themselves. (that is, with dialogue and sound effects)

From the Set: Photograph Montage is a 7-minute photo slide show of behind-the-scenes shots with commentary from producers and directors Chris and Paul Weitz. Its a cool little extra. The DVD also throws in an exclusive American Pie 2 Sneak Preview featurette which runs about 5 minutes and offers behind-the-scenes footage and clips from the new movie. Fun stuff. The music video for Tonics You Wanted More and about 10 minutes of live concert footage from the band also finds it way onto the disc. Classic Quotes offers direct scene access to 20 of the movies funniest lines. Poster Concepts is a 7-minute slide show of posters which never made it to theatres (Cool factoid: the movies original title was Great Falls). Trailers for the original and sequel round out the extras. The DVDs menus are fully animated and do feature sound.

Commentary: A ensemble commentary track from director Paul Weitz, producer Chris Weitz, writer Adam Herz and actors Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott. The tracks a complete blast to listen to and definitely worth checking out as everyone shares some pretty hilarious stories from filming.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
The weird thing about this release is that its a double disc release but all of the extras are included on both discs, the only difference between the two is that one offers the widescreen anamorphic and the other is the full screen version of the movie. Still, if you dont already own the DVD of American Pie, this ones chock full of kick ass extras and a great commentary track and is definitely worth the money (Note to readers: the Ultimate Edition comes in two versions, the R-rated and unrated cuts of the moviethe only difference is that the unrated version features a little more of Nadia as well as Jims intimacy with the pie).
