WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
America's favorite movie star couple (Cusack and Zeta Jones) had a messy split, but their movie publicist (Crystal) tries to get them back together at a press junket for their latest movie while also dealing with the movie's eccentric director (Christopher Walken) who is still editing the film at the last minute.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
It's just another "why did they make this?!" pieces of crud that Hollywood has been putting out lately. Billy Crystal must have pulled some big strings to get this lackluster script made into a movie. The casting director should be buried alive for recruiting Zeta Jones and Cusack as the main characters - they just don't have the personas to play a Hollywood power couple. Julia Roberts and Billy Crystal are a little better, but their talents are still wasted here. I thought it was funny that since Julia is so hot that they had to give her character a back story of being a "fatty" so everyone could believe that she was unlucky in love. Hank Azaria plays Zeta Jones' latin-lover boyfriend, but too bad he doesn't look latin and his accent is so bad it's supposed to be funny, but isn't. The only person who redeems the film (a little) is Christopher Walken as the misunderstood director who surprises everyone with his editing of the new film. I would have watched a movie entirely about him, but alas, in the end, this is a movie that tries to be a satire of the "movie star world" but falls flat on its face. Even the inside jokes aren't funny.
A definite lack of extras here. The only meat included on the dvd are 5 deleted scenes hosted by the director Joe Roth. He introduces each scene and gives some background on it. Funny enough, the two interesting ones show Cusack and Azaria's characters getting it on with young female actresses who got cut out of the film. However, the rest of the deleted scenes leave you with no suspicion as to why they were deleted.
There is a trailer for the film as well as cast and crew filmographies on this dvd. And they are stretching it by including trailers for MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING and THE MASK OF ZORRO - why would we want to watch those?!
Not good. Don't let your "significant other" talk you into renting this dvd. This is probably the worst movie that Roberts, Crystal, and Cusack have ever been in.
