WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
After failing to get his wife- Audrey (Olivia Munn) pregnant due to a low sperm count, Tommy (Paul Schneider) decides to break into a sperm-bank where he previously made a deposit.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Jay Chandrasekar's BABYMAKERS is a depressingly bad movie. Previously with Broken Lizard, Chandrasekar's made some funny movies (SUPER TROOPERS, BEERFEST) but BABYMAKERS- in an attempt to marry Judd Apatow-style character comedy with the Broken Lizard gross-out formula, ends up being a painfully unfunny outing. It's really too bad, as there's lots of talent here. Paul Schneider, who's wonderful in films like ALL THE REAL GIRLS and BRIGHT STAR doesn't fit the cartoonish character he's called upon to play in BABYMAKERS. I get that this is a comedy- but the premise, that he breaks into a sperm-bank with his idiotic buddies, is ludicrous- and like something left over from late-nineties gross-out movies like TOMCATS or SAY IT AIN'T SO. He comes off as such a moron that it's hard to sympathize with him. Olivia Munn- who can be funny if given the chance, has the thankless hot chick role as his wife, and never gets much to do.

The only one who really comes off well is Chandrasekar himself as the Mumbai gangster Schneider and his pals (Broken Lizard members Nick Hefferman and Nat Faxton) hire to help them break into the sperm bank. He's actually quite funny, especially when snorting coke off a knife, and commanding his voice-activated TV to shut the fuck up. When he's on-screen the tone of the movie seems right- but sadly, his role is too small to really make BABYMAKERS work.

THE EXTRAS
BABYMAKERS on Blu-ray comes with a few quickie extras limited to some interviews and a featurette .
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
BABYMAKERS really is a painfully unfunny film, and probably only worth watching if you have REALLY low standards for comedy. Chandrasekar's good for a few laughs, but this is pretty damn lame.

I'd argue that Kevin Kevin Heffernan (not Nick Hefferman) has a few great lines, my favorite being: "Have you been downtown lately? There's enough sperm on the street to choke Doogie Howser!"
