WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Barry Munday (Patrick Wilson) a wannabe ladies man finds himself two olives short a martini- if you catch my drift, when he hits on the wrong girl. Now castrated, Munday discovers that one of his last, pre-gelding, one night standís (Judy Greer) is pregnant with his child. Knowing this is his last chance to be a father, he tries to make himself part of the babyís life.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
BARRY MUNDAY is your typical ďquirkyĒ indie comedy, and a bit of a mixed bag as far as these things go. On the one hand, itís got a fairly clever plot (man loses testicles but finds family), and an impressive cast (including the criminally underrated Judy Greer) - but the execution leaves something to be desired.

For the first half hour of BARRY MUNDAY, I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Patrick Wilson gives a great comic performance as Munday, displaying a real knack for comedy that you wouldnít expect given his more serious work in films like LITTLE CHILDREN, and HARD CANDY. Sadly, the film just meanders along and never really picks up steam. Itís pretty much a one-joke premise, and itís stretched to the breaking point over the ninety minute running time.

If it were a short film, BARRY MUNDAY probably would have been terrific, but as a feature it just feels a little oppressive. Barry, and Greerís character, Ginger, arenít rich enough to sustain a full-fledged film. I adore Greer, but I found her a tad grating as Ginger, although I suppose thatís the point. There are a few other funny performances scattered throughout from Malcolm McDowell, and Cybil Shepherd as Greerís parents, and Chloe Sevigny as her slutty sister, and a funny turn from Billy Dee Williams. These performances and a clever premise make the film worth watching to a degree.

THE EXTRAS
A modest array of extras- including a commentary track by director Chris DíArienzo, Judy Greer and Patrick Wilson. We also get a few deleted scenes , a gag reel , and a featurette .
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
I think my moderate dislike of BARRY MUNDAY boils down somewhat to my dislike of indies comedies that try to be quirky, but often end up appealing only to a very select audience, of which Iím not a member. Itís similar to the work of Jared Hess (Iíve NEVER been a NAPOLEON DYNAMITE fan), and another indie I saw recently called PRETTY BIRD. If you happened to like those films, totally disregard this review, as you may well enjoy this.
