WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Six different animated Batman stories are combined to show what Bruce Wayne has been up to since the end of BATMAN BEGINS. The Scarecrow, Killer Croc and Deadshot all make appearances.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Like with any montage or collaboration of films, there are some that worked well and others that didnít work so well. These were decent stories and were definitely darker and more dramatic than any Batman cartoon weíve seen so far. There was an obvious attempt to maintain the feel of Nolanís universe even if the stories didnít maintain his quality.

For the most part, the stories got better as we moved along. It opened a little weak with four kids telling different versions of their own Batman stories. But by the time we got to the end, we had a brief glimpse of the Scarecrow and more involved action sequences. I especially liked the appearance of Deadshot, and thought that worked really well with what we saw in Begins and DARK KNIGHT.

I was hoping weíd have a nice wrap-up with the Scarecrow, but he only makes a brief appearance and then is out of the picture. The Killer Crocís appearance was kind of lame and unnecessary, but Iím assuming that means we wonít be seeing him in the final Batman film, which is fine by me.

Thereís one segment that features Lucious Fox pretty heavily and I think they need to be careful not to make him out to be a Q from the Bond series. I never thought of him like that, but it seems thatís what heís being reduced to. I didnít enjoy that segment as much as the others.

Overall though, I think this is a nice group of cartoons to tide people over until the DARK KNIGHT makes its way to Blu-ray. I love the fact that the compilation was produced by the producers of the Batman films and that gives them some credibility. They werenít the best Batman cartoons weíve ever seen, but for the most part, they were enjoyable.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary with Gregory Noveck and Denny OíNeil: This was cool because they referenced the DARK KNIGHT and gave some interesting tidbits there, but odd because they didnít have much to do with making the film. They stick to general Batman facts and donít address whatís going on the screen too often. It was an okay track, but nothing great.

A Mirror for the Bat: The Evil Denizens of Gotham City (35:47): This was a cool featurette about the various villains in the Batman universe. They discuss all of the famous villains and why they are the way they are. This was very interesting, especially if you like the Batman universe.

Wonder Woman Sneak Peek (10:29): I didnít even know that they were making an animated Wonder Woman movie. This is a preview/promotional featurette for said movie. We hear from the writers and voice actors that will be working on the film and their thoughts about the history of Wonder Woman. It looks like it might be a decent flick.

Batman and Me, a Devotion of Destiny: The Bob Kane Story (38:25): I donít think Bob Kane gets enough attention for his creation of Batman. He created a great character and a lot of people havenít even heard of him. This long featurette is his life story and we hear from all of the major people in his life. Itís very interesting and a nice tribute to Mr. Kane.

Bonus Episodes from Batman: The Animated Series (86:33): These are just a handful of episodes from the Batman animated series. Theyíre ok. I was never a huge fan of the animated series, but if you were on the fence of buying the DVD set or not, this gives you a chance to preview them before you buy.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Die-hard Batman fans will appreciate this disc and it has a nice variety of special features. I donít know if everyone else will enjoy it as much since some of the episodes tend to drag on for a bit. If youíre a huge fan, then this is a must own. For everyone else, Iíd recommend a rental.
