WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Uhhh, hey Beaviswe have like our own DVD or something. And some asswipe is reviewing the DVD on Joblo.com, that rules. Huh-huh, hey Butt-Head. You said blo. Shut up dilweed. The antics of Beavis and Butt-Head return as these two high schoolers dick around, eat nachos, and try to score with chicks. 40 episodes mark a collection filled with dick and fart jokes galore.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD is about as good and bad as you remember it being, though more the latter. Lasting only a handful of minutes per episode, it seems that you have to wade through two rather boring episodes till you get to that one stand out, laugh your guts out episode. I really dont remember the show being this terrible on the whole but it must be that Ive grown up (imagine that). To prove my point, there are about 3 GREAT episodes in this collection that make fun of MTV, use innuendos to no end, and feature some of the funniest dialogues Ive heard in a long time. But the other 37 episodes are truly horrible. What do I mean? Picture this. Theres nothing on TV so Beavis and Butt-Head sit on the couch with a blank look on their face- for the entire episode! Thats not fun or funny!

I truly feel that Mike Judge has the uncanny ability to tap into daily mundane life and make it funny. While BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD marked his first foray into the social marketplace, it just doesnt do it for me as much as say OFFICE SPACE. Its clear with the advent of a Volume 2 that they only had a handful of GOOD episodes, so they had to spread those over several volumes. Is it worth buying? Probably not. You may feel gypped out of hard earned cash for a few laughs and a lot of candid stupidness.
THE EXTRAS
BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD VOLUME 1 comes in a very nice silver slipcase complete with slim-line digipacks. The special features presented are surprisingly numerous.

Music Videos: One of the best parts of the show was music video commentary by the dynamic duo. Think MST3K but set to a Korn video. Theres 11 videos including bands such as Beastie Boys, Wilco, Pantera, and Grim Reaper. They are all pure GENIUS. Funny enough, a lot of the B & B commentary is natural reactions to horrible videos. They should make a Beavis and Butt-Head music video DVD!

Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-Head, Part 1: This is a fascinating look at the beginnings of the show. Youll hear a lot from series creator Mike Judge on everything from character inspirations to trouble with the FCC. This EPK was a lot of fun to watch- more fun than the show!

Special Appearances:

MTV VMAs: There are three VMA spots including one with David Letterman. These are pretty funny, especially with Mr. Letterman acting goofy.

Thanksgiving Special with Kurt Loder: This special aired the day before the last episode of the show. By now, I think they totally ran out of material and the two just arent funny at all. The only chuckle comes when Kurt Loder reveals hes never scored, and Beavis shouts, live on MTV news, Kurt Loder a virgin!

Promos: Three promos that include Bill Clinton and Waco are here. The thing of it is, they only last a few seconds, which is not enough time to really do anything.

Montages: Two separate montages are thrown in. These seem to be like early film student experiments. Not that great.

There is also a large collection of previews for other TV boxed sets like JACKASS and AEON FLUX.

Finally, there are a couple links to an animation show site and a cell phone video site.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD: THE MIKE JUDGE COLLECTION VOLUME 1 has a really long title and even longer spaces of no jokes. I remember the show being a lot funnier, but then again, Im no longer 16. If you really want a funny animated show, stick with FAMILY GUY or THE SIMPSONS. Several of the DVD features are great but not enough to warrant a purchase.
