WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
When his former partner is killed in the line of duty, FBI agent Malcolm Turner must go undercover to infiltrate the family of the suspect. Along the way, Big Momma teaches valuable life lessons while solving a serious crime.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
When I heard they were going to make a sequel to 2000’s BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE, I was relieved. There were a lot of loose ends to tie up and I really wanted to further the adventures of that zany Malcolm Turner. I can only hope that the success of the sequel will lead to a complete trilogy. I hope you picked up on that sarcasm, because I was laying it on pretty thick.

Of course, there was no need to make a sequel to an already bad movie. But they did, and I’m one of the many that has had to suffer through it. I actually think Martin Lawrence can be funny at times. I just don’t like him dressed like an old woman and the whole idea reminds me of the much better MRS. DOUBTFIRE. Martin Lawrence has his fan base, but so many of his jokes and movies are things that I heard in grade school. I’m not sure what the fascination is, but this film confirmed that he definitely needs a new schtick.

On a positive note, I did actually laugh a few times, which is saying a lot given the source material. I also liked the supporting characters despite them being incredibly cliché and straight from an episode of the O.C. But, in the end, it wasn’t enough to make this bearable and unless you loved the first one, I wouldn’t recommend picking this one up.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary with John Whitesell, David T. Friendly and Zachary Levi: Zachary Levi played Kevin in the film and I thought he was pretty funny. He’s Ok here and acts as a moderator for the other two. This commentary was pretty standard, but I felt everyone lost interest towards the end.

Deleted Scenes (16:27): Obviously, none of these are going to fix any of the problems with the movie. They’re mainly just extra scenes that further the subplots. Sorry to disappoint you Momma fans, but there’s not a whole lot more scenes with Momma.

Big Momma’s Secrets (7:30): This is a little featurette on the stunts in the movie. There are about five minutes worth of scenes from the movie, so it’s less than insightful. However, they talk about digitally shrinking a baby and that has to be the most worthless use of CGI in the history of film. It was completely ridiculous and pointless.

There are also some Previews.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
The idea is tired and the jokes have been told a million times before. We’ve all seen this before and done better. However, if you liked the first one, you’ll probably like the second one because they’re extremely similar.
