First, letís state for the record that I was wrong about Daniel Craig and he did an amazing job as Bond. Not since early Sean Connery have we seen a Bond with as much attitude and charisma as Craig. He gave his lines perfect and embodied everything the secret agent should be. I was blown away by his performance from the opening scenes to the final credits.
With that out of the way, letís talk about the actual movie. I loved it! It really was a blast to watch. It gave you everything an action movie, and a Bond movie, should give you. It was a fun, intense, action-packed thrill ride. Whatís more amazing is the fact that this is an action film where they actually justified the love story. Usually itís two hot people falling in love because theyíre hot. Also, the action sequences were new and inventive, which is hard to do these days, especially in a Bond film. The chase scene in the beginning was fast and exciting, the mini-adventures within the casino were fun and the end action scene was intense.
If I have one complaint, itís with the transitions in the script, mainly the transition from the ďcasinoĒ adventure to the ďfinalĒ adventure. It seemed as if Mr. Campbell didnít know how to get out of the casino and decided to just cut to the next scene with little explanation. In fact, I was sure the scene was going to end up being a dream sequence for about ten minutes.
With that little blemish aside, I have to say that this was one of the best Bond films of all time. Iím hesitant to call it THE best (I still like FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE), but itís definitely up there. The best part about it is that even if you donít like Bond movies, youíll still probably like this one. The bland familiarity of the Brosnan films is gone and the Broccoli family have done a great job of injecting new life into an old favorite.
James Bond: For Real (23:31): I donít get into the story behind the stunts too often because theyíre usually the same thing over and over. I did, however, enjoy the hearing from Sebastien Foucan. He was the guy Bond was chasing in the beginning of the film. He was pretty amazing with the things he did, and it was interesting to see how the stunts were done.
Bond Girls are Forever (49:01): For those of you that bought DIE ANOTHER DAY on DVD at Best Buy, this is almost the same documentary that was given away with the purchase. It now includes some interviews with the CASINO ROYALE girls, but itís really the same thing. Itís still fun, but Iím disappointed they didnít come up with something original for the DVD.
There are also some Previews and a Music Video.
