CHILLERAMA wastes no time whatsoever in getting ridiculous and things start off with a guy getting his cock bitten off by an undead bride and begin uhh leaking neon blue ooze. Thatís what kind of movie weíre talking about here. The first thing that pops into my head is Holy crap, do I really have to watch two hours of this? and I cringed a little. However, surprisingly the movie got much better from that point. When I say much better, I really mean much more fun since as mentioned, this movie canít really be taken too seriously.
The four short films that make up this movie are Wadzilla, I Was A Teenager Werebear, The Diary Of Anne Frankenstein, Deathication and Zom B Movie. All of them are equally outrageous and hilarious in a hokey kind of way. I was actually really surprised to see a couple of familiar faces like Joel David Moore (Bones, Avatar) and Richard Riehle (Office Space, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas). Itís sort of like a grindhouse-ish anthology and as a whole, the films remind me a bit of the fake trailers from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantinoís Grindhouse. The one film I Was A Teenager Werebear reminds me heavily of Grease and Frankie & Annetteís Beach Blanket Bingo, but with you know, with werebears.
After itís all said and done, I actually ended up enjoying CHILLERAMA a lot more than I thought I would. Itís not a good movie and while it is pretty terrible, itís that kind of awesome terribleness that you expect from a movie like this. And hey, a movie that makes Die Hard and Spaceballs references canít really be all that bad, right?
The Wadzilla Deleted Scenes, I Was A Teenage Werebear Deleted Scenes and the Zom-B-Movie Deleted Scenes are nothing that truly takes away from the films or really adds to them, but there are a few really fun ones that are worth checking out if you enjoyed CHILLERAMA itself.
The last couple of features that are included with CHILLERAMA are the Original Theatrical Trailer, Directors' Interviews and the Directors' Video Commentary.
If movies like this are your cup of tea, then youíll likely really it, otherwise Ė steer clear.
