WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
The brilliantly clever comedian born as Sacha Baron Cohen takes on a variety of issues while masquerading in one of three colorful disguises: profane white-boy "gangsta" Ali G, clueless Khazakstan correspondent Borat, and over-the-top Austrian bitch Bruno.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Politics, religion, and pop culture in general get skewered as Cohen proves that "playing stupid" can prove to be pretty damn smart. Da Ali G Show clearly illustrates that, where certain forms of comedy are concerned, you really only get out as much as you're willing to put in. At first glance, one might tend to look at a talk-show host like "Ali G" and miss the satire completely. So convincing is Cohen's portrayal of the character that he often gets his interview subjects to lower their guard, and when that happens ... hilariously embarrassing things are bound to happen. (Watch how easy it is for Borat to get a bar full of Arizonians to sing along with "Throw the Jew Down the Well!")

In most comedy programs of this sort, the satirical material is written down ahead of time and then performed (sometimes live) in front of a camera. But Da Ali G Show takes the humor to the next level; Watch as the "Bruno" character gets his "fashion experts" to change their on-camera opinions at the drop of a hat. It's not only drop-dead funny, but it's wonderfully enlightening, too.

I've only seen a few of the first-season episodes, but after sitting through all six installments from season two ... well, let's just say I'm a big fan. I knew this Cohen guy was funny, but it wasn't until I sat down and paid some close attention to his stuff that I was able to acknowledge him as one of the best and most insightful satirists working today. The onscreen silliness of his three characters only serves to mirror the insanity of the real world ... plus the raunchy stuff is really funny, too.

THE EXTRAS
Both platters come packed with a fair amount of "Unseen Shit."

One disc 1 you'll find Ali G's Harvard Commencement Speech from 2004, which runs 16 minutes and features some solid chuckles. Some of the audience members are clearly not amused by Mr. G's material, but most of the graduating seniors seem to enjoy their guest speaker.

Disc 2 includes several more deleted scenes, er, unseen shit:

Ali G Educational Summit (4:11)
Ali G Interviews Noam Chomsky (3:26)
Ali G Visits Civil War Navy Ship (2:59)

Borat Hunts in Texas (4:05)
Borat Learns Football (4:53)
Borat With Pima Republican Club (6:40)

Bruno Vists a Psychic (7:48)
Bruno Speaks With a Hollywood Stylist (4:37)

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
At first I just thought Ali G was a character created to lampoon the posse-poser sub-culture, but there's a whole lot more goin' on here than just simple silliness. Cohen is a sly and slick rabble-rouser, and one with a gift for quick-witted comedy schtick, surprisingly subtle insights, and off-the-cuff hilarity. Respeck.
