The trip back to the mid-90’s was a good one as Damon talked about things like Clinton and OJ Simpson. His jokes are still pretty funny even though they’re a little dated. The problem with Damon is that he has a tendency to drag them on way too long making you wonder when the next joke will come along. He does a couple of bits that started off funny, but died very quickly. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone familiar with him because he does the same thing in his movies and TV show.
I also felt this special lacked a lot of the energy that Damon had on In Living Color and in his earlier work. It reminded me a lot of Eddie Murphy’s RAW. They’re both funny, but periodically you get the feeling that they’d rather be somewhere else.
In the end though, he made me laugh many times and that’s all you can ask for from a stand-up comedian. He’s a funny guy and I’d be willing to bet everyone can find something funny in his performance.
