Thatís not to say that itís a bad film, because it certainly is not. In fact, itís a good way to spend 90 minutes and itís always fun to watch someone exact their revenge on evil-doers. I think the creators pulled too many punches. They couldíve gone crazy with the different things the gang couldíve done to the leadís mentally challenged brother, but it took too long for us to have a justification for the leadís actions. Also, in order for a revenge flick to really tug at our heart strings, we need a reason to root for the revenge-er.
Character development struggled a little bit too. We come into the film after the evil deeds have been committed and we never get a peek at what the good times were like, if there were any. Itís important that we pity the person who was wronged and like the person who is getting revenge for them. Iím not sure either were accomplished here.
I did enjoy the performance of Paddy Considine. Heís a very talented actor and I liked the character change from his name-making performance in IN AMERICA. The rest of the cast is mostly unknowns and they too do a good job. Production value was very good for the budget and all in all this was a decent film
In Shaneís Shoes(25:00): This is an easy recommendation for anyone that enjoyed the film. Shane Meadows takes us on a personal look at the making of the film and how it wound up in theaters. He has many interesting anecdotes and he talks a lot about how different things ended up in the film.
Alternate Ending (8:36): No spoilers here, but the ending in the movie was much better.
Deleted Scene (3:12): This is labeled ďdeletedĒ, but they meant ďextendedĒ. Itís just a minor extension of the first murder scene.
